The town is quiet, eerily so. All animals, all chatter, all gusts of wind have come to a complete stop this morning. A tumbleweed passes by through the center of town and the rocking chair on the Sheriff's porch sways but remains silent. Everything is muted and as the door of the hotel opens, the only sensation that rings utterly true today is this:
One of your own is gone.
And now, as the rules state, it is your job to discover their fate.
Welcome to the investigation post! If your character decides to search an area, please post the name of the location in your header and wait for the mod replies. Anything to discover or not to will be indicated during the course of the thread.
After the body is discovered, an announcement will be made and characters are free to spend the rest of the afternoons how they like. If there are any questions, please shoot a message either to this journal or at robowest.

with the scabbard and note he found in hand.]
Hey, everyone! [he's got no idea who is within earshot, so he'll just call out and let everyone get over here before:]
Found it... a body. That old, stern guy.
[noct doesn't know his name. but he'll hold up the items found and just:]
Found these on him and... he was bled out from the chest.
no subject
Bled out in what way? Gunshot wound? Stab wound?
no subject
[he sucks at this?]
Still in there if you wanna get a better look.

[Because unlike Noct, he doesn't find this icky??]

No way, no way! Is that a will or something?

Ouch! Guess he was a little too trusting, huh?

What's the paper say?
no subject
Have a look for yourself.

"This was the only time" which means what, definitely after curfew? Whoever was with the old guy would need to go through the window. And so would he. [Which is weird.] Someone killing someone over information doesn't surprise me, but something's not adding up. [A nod to the scabbard.] Who just leaves the murder weapon with their victim?

[ Old, stern guy ... that has to be the man from the library. He ... came to her birthday party.
Xion walks up with her hands lightly pressed to her mouth, looking -- sad, yes, but not torn up. She tilts her head as she considers ... all of this, and asks: ]
Do we know whose scabbard that is?

he's still frowning, and maybe a tad pale from the putrid smell and corpse staring. it's fine.
either way, noct shakes his head.]
No idea. Brought it out hoping maybe we'd find a clue about whether it's his or not.

[ A beat and, more quietly, looking up into her friend's face with concern: ]
Are you okay, Noctis?

He didn't seem like much of a fighter, but... if he was struck in the chest, that means he was brave enough not to flee from his killer.
[She probably shouldn't admire that, but. She does. Injuries from behind are shameful, after all.]
no subject
noct doesn't know to have a strong enough opinion on the guy, but it's still pretty messed up. who goes after an old guy, right? pretty messed up.]
Unless he was blindsided. Hard to say which it was... but if it's like you say, pretty noble of him, I guess.
no subject
[She nods to indicate it.]
He might not have seen a smaller weapon coming, but something of that size...? If he tried to flee, the wound ought to have at least been from his chest to his side... probably.

Sorry you had to find that on your own.

[he'll offer a weak smile—he's mostly still just a bit grossed out. it's one thing taking down monsters or soulless magitek troopers, or astrals. it's another when it's a real person and they're already dead.]
Someone had to, right? Guess I was just today's lucky winner.
no subject
... Well, here's hoping the actual killer's a bastard this time.
[ Since she knows what they'll be doing this weekend. ]

Also, some guy got really beat up and there's blood everywhere. So.

[more of a description please, natalie! they're going to have to check that out too, probably.]
He's still alive, right? [...would she leave him there if he wasn't?
(leave him alone he just looted a corpse.)]
no subject
[She's studied all the wanted posters a few times, but she doesn't know him well at all.]
Also, yes, he's still alive. Or at least he was when I left. I would have led with that if he were dead, god.

[If it's handwritten maybe there's something that could be done]

[he'll hand it over—and it's definitely handwritten.]

The Hero Club has samples of a few people around here. It could be possible we'll get somewhere by comparing the handwriting of this note with the samples we have.
[It's worth a try, in his opinion. People writing their names on the Hero Club list, the couple requests they have received...it's enough to narrow it down by five or six names.
Supposing this note didn't have forged or disguised handwriting, that is. Hah!
But yeah, it's something to do during the trial]
