[ WEEK THREE – TRIAL ]

TRIAL

In the morning, the town comes back to life. Birds crow overhead, a snake nearby hisses, a lingering coyote dips behind a shop before disappearing into the wild. It's a frightening contrast to the stillness of yesterday but it doesn't mean it's over yet. After all, today is the trial. The Sheriff stands on the porch of the Town Hall and brings his hand up to his mouth to let out a whistle. He'll thumb back to the Hall behind him and very clearly state -- "Trial time, folks. Get in here and figure out who did it." And then he'll turn to leave before pausing and adding on, "Bring a snack or somethin' too. The Town Hall is set up more like a court house, a Judge's bench at the front but instead of at center, it's off to the side as if more for observation than participation. There's a table at the front of the room already holding a small box and a pad of papers and pen, for voting apparently. A side room containing only a metal gurney is next and today it's obvious why there's a gurney there at all with the corpse, resting right on top of it. Aside from that, there are rows for everyone to take a seat and it's only after everyone is inside and settled, that the doors close and the Sheriff speaks. "Well, have at it. You've got till nine." And then, he points to a clock on the wall that reads 12:00. Good luck. Welcome to the trial post! Characters are free to discuss everything related to the trial here. Actually, Xion also looks at the Sheriff, and for a moment she seems troubled. Like all her emotions this morning, she quickly forces it back down and looks at Damian again. ]

No. Just the camera inside one of the cells. I tried to pick the lock, but I couldn't, and we asked the Sheriff for the key, but he wouldn't answer.

But the Sheriff is the only one with access, so he either did it himself, or he assisted someone in doing it.

[daaaaaaamn. . . she hadn't heard anything about Annabeth's body until now, and she knew from her conversation with the young woman in the stocks that she was dating Percy. Milla can't imagine what he's feeling right about now, and comforting young teenage boys is a lot more difficult than comforting teenage girls]

This week, we won't fail to find the true culprit behind these crimes.

[ Taking some tea, but oddly enough passes up the snacks after hearing about that corpse gravy. ]

Natalie was staying there and recovering, but we didn't want to leave her alone overnight. Milla and I wanted to stay together, too, so we both stayed with her.

My room. Mr. Barnham can likely confirm, I don't tend to wander at night even without curfew. And there's a dog in our room, I couldn't get out without causing some alert.

[Actually she has no idea if Barnham's dog would rouse or make noise over that, but don't dogs usually?]

It shouldn't have been kept by any of the civilians. That's why it had been so easily compromised. It may have evidence on it, but we won't be able to see it.

[Sorry you're being scolded by a ten year old piece of shit.]

When we catch Miss Annabeth's killer, we'll feed them to the coyotes.

[And then push the coyotes and the killer into the chemical pit. Yes. That seems fair.]

But he had said he'd assist someone in a murder, so...

[There's only one answer, isn't there?]

The Sheriff must have done it. Whatever was in that camera may have been enough to crack one or more of these cases open. I believe he'd do something like hinder the investigations not out of a wish to help the culprits, but as a way to make the trial harder for everyone.

I wonder... If they had a fight?

[ All he can say, really considering the state of the room. Also Russell just sucks as consoling people, so he won't try that... ]

Please take care with where you sleep. [Not that the hotel was 100% safe, but...] I fear Miss Annabeth was targeted due to her location.

If Tarvek and I didn't have it, it would have been locked up in the jail anyway. So it's kind of a moot point either way, isn't it?

[ Her voice is a little cold. ]

Sheriff. Can you tell us how many culprits we're looking for? There were three victims. Were they all killed by the same person?

I'm not including accomplices in this question.
