[ WEEK THREE – TRIAL ]

TRIAL

In the morning, the town comes back to life. Birds crow overhead, a snake nearby hisses, a lingering coyote dips behind a shop before disappearing into the wild. It's a frightening contrast to the stillness of yesterday but it doesn't mean it's over yet. After all, today is the trial. The Sheriff stands on the porch of the Town Hall and brings his hand up to his mouth to let out a whistle. He'll thumb back to the Hall behind him and very clearly state -- "Trial time, folks. Get in here and figure out who did it." And then he'll turn to leave before pausing and adding on, "Bring a snack or somethin' too. The Town Hall is set up more like a court house, a Judge's bench at the front but instead of at center, it's off to the side as if more for observation than participation. There's a table at the front of the room already holding a small box and a pad of papers and pen, for voting apparently. A side room containing only a metal gurney is next and today it's obvious why there's a gurney there at all with the corpse, resting right on top of it. Aside from that, there are rows for everyone to take a seat and it's only after everyone is inside and settled, that the doors close and the Sheriff speaks. "Well, have at it. You've got till nine." And then, he points to a clock on the wall that reads 12:00. Good luck. Welcome to the trial post! Characters are free to discuss everything related to the trial here. [Damian, at least, doesn't seem too bothered by the outburst, but only because he's been trained extensively not to react emotionally. (Except when, you know, he gets emotional.)] Because the killers have the upper-hand, and if they can roam the town at night, they can easily search every room and every building unobstructed.

And with the Sheriff helping them, it'd be even easier to take something from you.

[ she walks over to him. papika looks angry, but more... tired, than anything, so her tone is somewhat civil when she talks to him. ]

Did you put the other bodies into that pit? Not Nui's, but... everyone else's?

[ since he was digging it and papika can't think of why the killer(s???) would go through the trouble of throwing people who were already dead into it. ]

Since the Sheriff was digging the hole, do we think he mixed up the chemicals, or that the killer did?

[okay but here's a concept: they're all locked in a room together. If they just start killing now, they're bound to get the killer- WHY AM I NOT PLAYING SOMEONE WHO CAN ACTUALLY SUGGEST THIS, DAMN IT]

Right. This isn't even about... doing this because we have to vote. It's about bringing someone who thought it was okay to do that to justice.

[ He looks down. ] I wish my roommate didn't die though, it's pretty lonely in my room now...

[ Her response at least draws out a small smile of Hannibal's too, since he's at least appreciative that she doesn't ask for more details. Thank god, that explained it. ]

...I am. I think so every day I spend with Will.

Though she's been attached at the hip to Percy, and will continue to be, Xion spares him a quick glance before limping over to Sei.

Likely asleep, or close enough to it. We're neither of us night owls, and in such tight quarters it wouldn't be polite to stay up and prevent Mr. Barnham from his rest.

[Or smart to stray too far from him, he's an experienced knight of some sort who's made all manner of oaths about protection and keeping the innocent safe. A very handy ally.]

I was definitely asleep all night. When I woke up, I felt really groggy, too, like my head was all fuzzy.

[ Her way of saying she was still very sleepy, perhaps unnaturally so, even after waking up. So no, she definitely never roused during the night. ]

You fell asleep? Like... You think someone knocked you out somehow without you noticing?

[that's... concerning, to say the least.]

I thought maybe she'd used Riku's sword, but ... I don't think so. It was covered in blood, too, but it was more like ... splattered with it. It didn't look like it was used to stab anyone.

[ This is tough for her to explain with her more limited vocabulary and understanding of ... everything, but she's Trying. ]

And your roommate is Jason, correct? He said he fell asleep about midnight. If you were in the lounge, you wouldn't be able to confirm that.

... I guess I hadn't thought about it that way. [ The killers having that kind of free reign. No one broke in when she had the camera last week. ]

I always just thought that if someone came for the camera, I'd be awake when they broke in, so I could fight back. I still don't know what happened.

The Sheriff said that he doesn't really help, right? He just provides stuff. So wouldn't the killer have to have done it?

But any Bandits will likely not divulge the secrets of the role, in order to protect themselves. . .

It could be worth asking the group as a whole for ideas on how to smoke them out.
