[ WEEK THREE – TRIAL ]

TRIAL

In the morning, the town comes back to life. Birds crow overhead, a snake nearby hisses, a lingering coyote dips behind a shop before disappearing into the wild. It's a frightening contrast to the stillness of yesterday but it doesn't mean it's over yet. After all, today is the trial.

The Sheriff stands on the porch of the Town Hall and brings his hand up to his mouth to let out a whistle. He'll thumb back to the Hall behind him and very clearly state --

"Trial time, folks. Get in here and figure out who did it."

And then he'll turn to leave before pausing and adding on,

"Bring a snack or somethin' too.

The Town Hall is set up more like a court house, a Judge's bench at the front but instead of at center, it's off to the side as if more for observation than participation. There's a table at the front of the room already holding a small box and a pad of papers and pen, for voting apparently. A side room containing only a metal gurney is next and today it's obvious why there's a gurney there at all with the corpse, resting right on top of it. Aside from that, there are rows for everyone to take a seat and it's only after everyone is inside and settled, that the doors close and the Sheriff speaks.

"Well, have at it. You've got till nine."

And then, he points to a clock on the wall that reads 12:00. Good luck.

Welcome to the trial post! Characters are free to discuss everything related to the trial here. They won't be let out of the room until 9PM when voting ends. Every character must vote and the voting post can be found here.

They're pretty brutal. [But he's definitely not saying no.] You think the Sheriff would let us get away with that?

[...don't give him ideas, Sei.]
impulsiveness: (029)

[personal profile] impulsiveness 2017-02-04 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Why wouldn't he? It's "entertainment", right?

[s t o p.]
hydrokinetics: (Here comes the fighter)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-04 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It is, but it's not enough I bet. It's too easy of a kill.
impulsiveness: (023)

[personal profile] impulsiveness 2017-02-04 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
He said the executed's way of participating is through their pain, right? Sounds painful enough to me.
hydrokinetics: (This one's a fighter)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-04 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Who says they should even be allowed to participate anymore? If participation means they're getting rewarded, maybe it's best to let them die painlessly.
impulsiveness: (022)

[personal profile] impulsiveness 2017-02-04 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
What, and move on to greener pastures without getting cut in return? To hell with that. They killed three of us.
hydrokinetics: (Although I never mastered anything)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-04 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[...given the fact he doesn't respond immediately, it's obvious he's thinking the same thing. Whoever did this deserves whatever pain everyone's willing to dish out. But at least he thinks before he speaks.]

Can't even tell how many killers were involved. You think it was maybe just bandits this week?
impulsiveness: (018)

[personal profile] impulsiveness 2017-02-04 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe. Or maybe not. If our only culprits are bandits, then they're seriously fucked up in the head. You don't whack out three people like this just because you're being threatened. A normal person would look for something less... painful.

[Ugh.]
hydrokinetics: (There's no reason)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-04 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
So possibly bandits that were a little too bloodthirsty, or someone who really wanted to get a message across. And I don't know. I've had enough arguments about what people will do when they're desperate. It would depend what the Sheriff would reward them.
robitussin: (in their eyes before)

[personal profile] robitussin 2017-02-04 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe we could wait until we actually knew who did it to talk about this?

[screams internally]
impulsiveness: (010)

[personal profile] impulsiveness 2017-02-04 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure. If we get our perp, we'll discuss it later.

[sorry, natalie.]
feminitis: (well it's uh y'know)

[personal profile] feminitis 2017-02-04 05:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Not brutal enough for this killer. Whoever it is, they deserve that and worse. [She's mad. She's really mad. Percy's madder, of course, but she's pretty ticked too.] Why would he say no? It would fit with the theme.

hydrokinetics: (May we stay lost on our way home)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-04 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[He shrugs.] It would fit the theme, but dunno if it'd count as us doing things ourselves. I don't really know how to work with coyotes, just wolves. [What.]
feminitis: (that no-good son of a bitch)

[personal profile] feminitis 2017-02-04 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Then let's cut them into pieces and feed them to the coyotes...! That would count, right?

[the very small amount of chill she had to start with disappeared with her leg i'm sorry]
hydrokinetics: (Not anymore)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-04 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably. [This is not helpful omg. But speaking of her leg, he pauses to look at her carefully.] ...how are you holding up after yesterday?

[...yeah they're in trial for the murder of his girlfriend and a few others, and that's the question he has.]
feminitis: (oh i guess i can't cut you... weh)

[personal profile] feminitis 2017-02-04 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
...

[The question takes the wind right out of her sails and she glances down at the ground, where she's standing on the one foot that she has and using her katana to keep herself propped up.]

...I'm trying not to think about it until we catch whoever did this.

[Not great, in other words. Poorly enough that it'll be a distraction if she allows it to.]
hydrokinetics: (There's no reason)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-04 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Sorry about his protag life.]

Understood. Sorry. [No?] We have a lot of ground to cover today. It won't be an easy catch. [So, that is to say, they have plenty of time to be distracted by this.]
feminitis: (what do i doooo)

[personal profile] feminitis 2017-02-04 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. That's why I...

[She brings up a hand to wipe at her eyes, though she keeps her head bowed.]

I don't have anyone to blame for what happened to me but myself and I know it didn't have anything to do with the murders... s-so I don't want to waste time we could be using to catch Miss Annabeth's killer worrying about me. There's so much we still have to figure out...

I'm sorry, Mister Jackson. It was really kind of you to ask.
hydrokinetics: (I ain't really sleep well)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-04 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[A shake of the head.] It's okay, I get it. Don't worry.

But it's not just her killer. [Despite that being what he cares about most.] Somebody killed three of us. There's absolutely no way we can let them get away.]
feminitis: (fight me u loser...)

[personal profile] feminitis 2017-02-04 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[okay but here's a concept: they're all locked in a room together. If they just start killing now, they're bound to get the killer- WHY AM I NOT PLAYING SOMEONE WHO CAN ACTUALLY SUGGEST THIS, DAMN IT]

Right. This isn't even about... doing this because we have to vote. It's about bringing someone who thought it was okay to do that to justice.
hydrokinetics: (This one's a fighter)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-04 06:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Britt ya hecked up.]

Exactly. Someone in this room is at least partially if not entirely guilty for what happened and if they walk away, the chances of this getting even worse spikes even higher. I'm not letting that happen. Let's start tackling evidence one piece at a time.

[ ... for what it's worth ...

Though she's been attached at the hip to Percy, and will continue to be, Xion spares him a quick glance before limping over to Sei.

There's no real ... expression on her face, but nonetheless, she'll reach for Sei's hand, very, very gentle. ]
feminitis: (010)

[personal profile] feminitis 2017-02-04 06:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[Thanks, Xion.

Sei squeezes her hand back, just once, and then will keep her hold light and easily broken for if she ends up needing to limp away because Percy is heading somewhere else.]

[ For what it's worth, Xion will weave their fingers together. It's still a loose hold, but a little closer.

The emotional effort she has to expend to do even this is immense, and it takes a lot out of her. But Sei is worth it. She can't even look at her friend, but she's trying so, so hard. ]
feminitis: (ugly sobbing)

[personal profile] feminitis 2017-02-04 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
[That's fine. Sei gets it.

She won't try and do anything more - Xion's obviously pretty close to her limit - but she'll stay there for as long as her friend seems to want her to.]
