CURRENT POPULATION: 28
It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.
... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!
After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts.

When they pry open the board though, they'll get a look inside even if it's too dark for detail. It looks like one big room -- wall full of letterboxes and another full of bank tellers. An empty space of floor between the two.
Oh but, hm. The teller booths look like they each have someone in them. Weird. ]

Shinnosuke's still ready to jump away from the window or bash something with his shovel or whatever, but until something happens, he'll be peering in.]

Jason squints into the window, trying to make out if there's any sort of terrible red light like there was in the Clinic, but... hm.]
Yeah. Four figures, one in each booth. Not exactly the giant robots I had in mind, but ten bucks say they'll shoot something at us if we're not careful.
[Pulling back, frowning.]
What do we do now? Unless we find a convenient backdoor, the only way in is through the front.

Didn't see any kind of security device, but it's not like we could see much of anything to begin with. We could try checking for another entrance just in case, but...
[They're probably not going to be that lucky??]
Going through the front looks like it might be our only option.

[He looks at the building again, but, nah. There's a small noise of frustration here, because either they go in or they don't. Standing around isn't going to help them make that choice.]
How about this: We take the rest of the boards off this window, and try shooting one of the figures from a couple yards away. If something happens, the distance will give us a head start.

[He steps back and slightly to the side, so as to minimize how much he's in sight while still being able to see inside.
And he'll get his gun out anyway, just in case, as he leaves his shovel on the ground, a short distance away.]

But with the boards gone and the two of them away from the building, Jason sets his shovel down and takes out his own pistol. He then gets into position, takes aim—]

[—and fires at the nearest figure, trying to make the shot as least immediately lethal as possible just in case. Maybe it hits. Maybe it doesn't. Only the Squee behind the curtain will tell??? It's not like their view of the place is any better from here, man.

The shot hits! It's too dark to really make out details and the angle is a bit off but they'll see a splattering of liquid as the figure slumps over, sliding out of the teller chair and onto the floor.
A moment later, there is the sound of skittering. ]

As soon as Shinnosuke hears skittering, he jumps back, his grip tightening around his gun as he holds it up. What the hell, is there some kind of creature in there??]

The skittering, though. The fucking skittering. That's the only thing making him hesitate because that figure sure did spurt some kind of liquid before slumping over — and his brain automatically defaults to blood.]

[Rest in pieces, Jason Todd. Because here he goes, grabbing the shovel before moving to take a closer look.

For realsies though because that liquid is sort of all over the booth. Dark and shiny and dripping down the walls. What the hell?

Shinnosuke knows he should really do as Jason says, even if only for his own self-preservation regardless if Jason is screwed, because that would be the smart and practical thing to do.
... Instead, he bends down to pick up a rock with his free hand, before approaching Jason and the window.]
Move. We're going to have to deal with... whatever's making that noise, sooner or later.

They seriously need a babysitter, though. Between his panic over all that liquid on the booth and the skittering that keeps growing louder, it takes him all of two seconds to notice the rock in Shinnosuke's hand.]

[Alas, the window is dead in the moment it takes for him to regain his footing. Nothing to do about that except cover his nose and mouth as the hissing starts, and then back away before the whole thing can blow.
... Or backing away is what he would do, if he didn't catch sight of the very, very red liquid splattered all over the booth. He immediately pales, breath held and hand over his face as he stares at the scene. Half a second later, and his eyes dart to whatever (whoever) may be in the four booths — if it's visible at all.

As they fall into the post office, and land on the floor, they will find the source of the hissing. And the skittering.
The floor is kind of, well, covered in a bunch of tiny little robotic scorpions. And snakes. And spiders. If it has venom, there is a tiny robot of it on the floor here.
