CURRENT POPULATION: 28 It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings. ... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours! After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts. This post functions as the general mingle post for the week. I'm sorry, I don't think breakfast is quite ready yet.

[ Seasoned steak for breakfast? ... You know, that should be the least of Chane's concerns right now. She peers over Milla's shoulder at the shriveled, burnt crisp of meat.

And then she's just going to reach over and turn off the oven's temperature knob. ]

[thank you Chane for being Milla's metaphorical bubble wrap]

[the meat continues to sizzle, but now that the heat is off, Milla grabs the pan by the handle and places it on a cold burner]

T. . . thank you. I-it didn't quite turn out how I envisioned it.

[is Milla flustered? she hardly ever gets flustered]

[ At least she tried! Chane does her best to be gentle and sympathetic - neither of which she's especially skilled at - as she encroaches on the cooking space. The steak is completely decimated and inedible, there's no salvaging it now.

It's only after she's unceremoniously dumped it into the trash bin does she consider that might not have been the most elegant solution to Milla's inexperience...

[WELL. fortunately Milla is very difficult to offend, and she had alreayd planned on chucking the burnt thing anyway]

I suppose we go back to the beginning.

Do you know how to cook, Chane?

[tightly]

[ No... She likely could figure it out if left on her own, but she's never really needed to. Her needs were always tended to, there was usually someone to see to that.

Giving her head a small shake, Chane starts to glance around for a cookbook. There has no be at least one in here? ]

[there is! Milla grabbed one from the library. it's all about steaks and steak dinners and stuff]

Perhaps if we try cooking together, we'll be able to make something. . . ah. Edible.

[ Since it's breakfast time, why not try a breakfast dish? Chane finds Milla's book and starts flipping deftly through the pages, until she finds...

Aha! She taps the page to show Milla. ]

Oh! That looks delicious.

[and probably easier to make than steak]

But what am I supposed to do with all of this garula steak?

[ Notebook comes out, pen touches paper, writing happens in its scratchy writing-noise. ]

Perhaps Dr. Lecter can show you how to prepare it.

Ah! Yes, that's a good idea. I'll ask him the next time I see him.

[Dr. Lecter is her fellow foodie, certainly he knows how to cook!]

Eliot also expressed an interest in food. I could ask him as well, just to get more than one perspective on proper steak preparation techniques.

[ In the meantime, there's still breakfast to worry about. Chane begins to busy herself collecting ingredients for their Plan B meal -- water, butter, flour, a pot to cook it in...

She's determined to make sure that Milla doesn't starve, apparently. ]

[it's okay, Milla has been living off of lunchables and cereal and chips. she's dying for a nicer meal, and is grateful to Chane for helping]

[she's gathering the fruits needed for the dish-- tomato, avocado, and a lemon-- so she can go ahead and chop those up and season them in advance. the seasoning part, at least, is not the difficult part of cooking]

If this recipe works well, I could make some for the trial this weekend. Don't you think?
