[ WEEK FOUR ]

WEEK FOUR

CURRENT POPULATION: 28

It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.

... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!

After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts.

This post functions as the general mingle post for the week. Wanted Posters and other small events will be posted in top levels below. If there's any questions or requests, please send a PM or shoot a PP to [plurk.com profile] robowest.

Ochazuke?

The lake wasn't the most ideal spot for fishing. [Because... Damian tried, and Pennyworth came out of it with more than he did almost.

Damian peers up at what Hannibal is doing without crowding or leaning in to breathe on anything.]
My mother made something like it when I was young. [Damian, you're still young.] She would put pollock roe on it instead of salmon.

[ He looks surprised that Damian knows the dish, but it gets him to smile a little more. ]

That's correct. I'm surprised you know it, admittedly. My passion for cooking as an art came from learning Japanese cuisine first— My aunt is Japanese, so I often cooked for her growing up. Ochazuke was a favorite of hers when we had the fresh fish for it.

[ Though as Damian looks, there really isn't much. Hannibal is patiently waiting for the rice to cook, and it's not quite time to start on the fish just yet to have everything prepared together. It will be soon, though, and so Hannibal gets the fish out and starts to lightly season it. It's already been neatly cut and filleted, so at least Damian is free from having to watch butchering. ]

But no, it's not. Will said much the same. But it's where he spends most of his time. He's able to catch fish through patience and persistence alone. [ Because yeah he. Does not like people. He's the opposite of Hannibal in that way. ] A pollock roe would compliment the broth nicely, though. Would a roe fall within your diet, or is it at the limit?

Since roe is just the eggs, I don't mind eating it. Similar to chicken eggs, something else I also don't mind eating. It's not fertilized.

I can sometimes eat fish out of necessity, but I try not to do so. [Fish is at least better than meat. Sorta. Sorry, Hannibal...] If I have to eat any meat, I prefer meat that has been butchered humanely, and meat that has been hunted respectfully.

I refuse to eat meat, however. I saved a cow from being slaughtered. The conditions it had been in was unsanitary and the methods of butchering were disgusting.

Oh, as do I.

[ Hannibal actually perks up a bit at Damian's explanation about butchering, since it's something he agrees with completely. And honestly. I hate him ]

I love eating meat, but at least at home, I always used ethical butchers. There is no need for unnecessary suffering, even for animals that we've raised for that purpose. [ He inclines his head to the rabbits, actually a bit more genuinely grateful for them now that he knows Damian's point of view ] I hardly find it unreasonable that you would prefer vegetarianism. I almost considered it myself, but unfortunately, I have too much of a taste for savory things to give it up.
