CURRENT POPULATION: 28 It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings. ... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours! After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts. This post functions as the general mingle post for the week. [ The tomato is headed straight for Claire's face, who doesn't seem to be doing anything other than letting it reach him, until he catches it in the very last second without batting an eyelash. He seems to have unnatural reflexes...

Still holding the tomato in front of his face, he slowly moves his arm out of the way to get a clear view of the perpetrator. ]

Are you challenging me?

[The sorry was instinctive, but the fact that he actually caught it makes her pause in surprise. Then she shakes her head slowly as he asks his question. She gives a low whistle before responding, impressed.]

I am already fairly sure that I would not win that battle. [A small pause.] Seriously, though, that was an accident, so please don't throw the tomato at me?

[generously]

Ah, what else can I do but accept your sincere apology?

[ Now with less intensity, he slowly walks over to the young woman and offers the tomato back. ]

You're one of the girls from the mines, right? Can I ask what you're doin' with the tomatoes?

[robitussin]

[She laughs once at his sudden change in demeanor, taking the tomato when he offers it, but she pauses for a moment afterwards.]

My name is Natalie. But - yeah, that's me, I guess.

[A briefer pause, before she shakes her head as if to clear it and looks down at the bucket.]

I was throwing them at the town sign because I'm pissed at everything.

[generously]

At the sign...?

[ He looks over to the object of her rage. Well, he can't blame her for feeling the way she is. It's been a stressful week for the populace to say the least. ]

Hm. Why not just destroy the sign itself?

[robitussin]

Because there's a rule against destroying things and I really don't want to get put in the stocks after last week, considering... Well, you know.

[A small shrug.]

So. Tomatoes it is.

[generously]

[ Oh yeah. Rules are a thing that exist. ]

I see. In that case, that's actually really clever.

Old Hal's been kinda on edge ever since someone offed his cat. Well, I suppose I'd be, too, I've always had a soft spot for animals. [ Even the ones that try to kill him!! ]

[ And then belatedly-- ] Oh, name's Felix. You've already met my wife on your little expedition.

[robitussin]

Yeah. Whoever killed his cat is a piece of shit, honestly. I mean, anybody who kills anyone here is, but there wasn't even a benefit in that.

[She nods, putting it together fairly quickly. She'd noticed that they had the same last name when she first looked over the posters, though she wasn't sure until this point whether it was a coincidence or not.]

Chane? We didn't talk much. [Wait, no, back up. Rewind.] I mean, we weren't around each other that long.

[generously]

[ "Didn't talk much" goes over his head anyway. He's so used to understanding Chane on an emotional level that he forgets she's mute sometimes. ]

I suppose things did get hectic fairly quickly once you were there, huh? Can I ask you how you got outta there?

[robitussin]

[She pauses, thinking for a moment, before she answers. The look on her face is skeptical.]

I crawled out through a tunnel that ended in the clinic, but I feel like you're asking for a bigger picture deal here. You've gotta be more specific.

[generously]

Just tryin' to make sense of this town. I found Sei inside the church after she got lost, and now you're both one appendage short.

[ He pauses as well, because... yeah, that sucks. And he's bad at expressing condolences. ]

... Natalie, right? Why don't I help you with that? [ He means throwing tomatoes at the sign. ] I kinda wanna stick it to the town, too.

[robitussin]

[Deadpan:]

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't realize until this exact moment.

[Another shrug, and she nudges the bucket towards him with a foot.]

Yeah, Natalie. And the tomatoes aren't my personal property, so go for it.

[generously]

[ You're welcome. ]

Do you think we should shout something while we throw them? Something like "To hell with Whole Ass!"?
