[ WEEK SIX – TRIAL ]

TRIAL

In the morning, the town comes back to life. Birds crow overhead, a snake nearby hisses, a lingering coyote dips behind a shop before disappearing into the wild. It's a frightening contrast to the stillness of yesterday but it doesn't mean it's over yet. After all, today is the trial. The Sheriff stands on the porch of the Town Hall and brings his hand up to his mouth to let out a whistle. He'll thumb back to the Hall behind him and very clearly state -- "Trial time, folks. Get in here and figure out who did it." And then he'll turn to leave before pausing and adding on, "Bring a snack or somethin' too. The Town Hall is set up more like a court house, a Judge's bench at the front but instead of at center, it's off to the side as if more for observation than participation. There's a table at the front of the room already holding a small box and a pad of papers and pen, for voting apparently. A side room containing only a metal gurney is next and today it's obvious why there's a gurney there at all with the corpse, resting right on top of it. Aside from that, there are rows for everyone to take a seat and it's only after everyone is inside and settled, that the doors close and the Sheriff speaks. "Well, have at it. You've got till nine." And then, he points to a clock on the wall that reads 12:00. Good luck. Welcome to the trial post! Characters are free to discuss everything related to the trial here. [gestures towards the Sheriff. she's standing stiffly today, arms crossed, demeanor tense. everyone is tired]

I asked if two murders were Bandit kills, and one was an independent kill. The Sheriff said no, but won't clarify for now.

[glaring]

Because there's only nine of us in here? I can see why.

[ sighing. ]

I didn't look at the clinic.

I did. Percy and I were the one who discovered the scene at the clinic.

Is there something you want to know about it?

[glaring]

Only if something there could rule out someone here.

[props a hand on her hip]

The trail of blood beginning at the front of the hotel led to the clinic. It like someone was dragged there. Upon arriving at the scene, Percy and I found Natalie and Dr. Lecter unconscious on the ground. Dr. Lecter's leg was caught in a bear trap. Natalie was severely injured as though she had been in a fight.

Dr. Lecter was dead on the scene. Natalie was not.

[glaring]

Did she say who she got into a fight with?

I didn't have the opportunity to ask her. I assumed she'd be here, at the trial.

[that's what she gets for making assumptions]

[ welp. ]

If she got into fight--and if Shinnosuke did too--maybe there's... there's... you know.

[ she doesn't want to suggest stripping again.

especially since the chill doctor is gone. ]

Strip searching hasn't been very helpful to us up until now. Do you think it'll help this time?

Are you suggesting a strip search?

[It's.... not a bad idea. BUT THERE ARE ONLY NINE OF THEM LEFT.]

but where do they take it from here?]

Alibis are probably pointless with this many of us. I don't think it's gonna help us this time around. [he doubts stripping will work either, but you know.]

Our usual methods of investigation are all useless here. Alibis, and strip searches. We have the bodies, but--

[that hasn't been super helpful in the past? though they might as well try]

Not sure we'd get much out of the gunshot wounds—maybe the other one, though.

[hannibal's was a bit of the odd man out in this situation.]

Then we might as well give it a try. We still have several hours before we need to make a decision.

I guess then we should decide who wants the honors of... corpse checking.

[gre...at... any volunteers, pals?]

[glances at the bodies, and it looks like Percy beat them to it]

Ah-- I think it's already being handled, but I'll go see if they need assistance.

[she doesn't mind digging through corpses for clues honestly]

Alright. Call me over if you need any more help.

[he'll do that, even if it seems like they've got it under control, but they can always tag team if needed.]

[she nods! and then goes over to watch Percy and Jason do their thing. like a creepy person reading over someone's shoulder]

[There are only nine people left and they are all tired. Save them.]

Maybe he'll make us wait until there are 10 minutes left this time.

[HA HA. . . HA]

[also there are no trial snacks today :(]

Perhaps, but we should focus on what we can in the meantime. I'll keep an eye on him and raise the question again after we've had some time to discuss our situation.

Right. No point in getting stuck on something we can't do shit about.

[she nods]

Exactly.

Are we going to start with the bodies?

[impulsiveness]

Might as well. They're all we have right now.

They are. And we need a spring board to leap off of.

Would you like me to examine them?

[since. she knows she can dig through corpses with little issue, but she's pretty worried about him right now]

[impulsiveness]

[He shakes his head.]

I'll take care of it. Do something useful for a change.

[he's. fine. digging through corpses is just standard procedure by now, tbh.]
