[ WEEK SIX – TRIAL ]

TRIAL

In the morning, the town comes back to life. Birds crow overhead, a snake nearby hisses, a lingering coyote dips behind a shop before disappearing into the wild. It's a frightening contrast to the stillness of yesterday but it doesn't mean it's over yet. After all, today is the trial.

The Sheriff stands on the porch of the Town Hall and brings his hand up to his mouth to let out a whistle. He'll thumb back to the Hall behind him and very clearly state --

"Trial time, folks. Get in here and figure out who did it."

And then he'll turn to leave before pausing and adding on,

"Bring a snack or somethin' too.

The Town Hall is set up more like a court house, a Judge's bench at the front but instead of at center, it's off to the side as if more for observation than participation. There's a table at the front of the room already holding a small box and a pad of papers and pen, for voting apparently. A side room containing only a metal gurney is next and today it's obvious why there's a gurney there at all with the corpse, resting right on top of it. Aside from that, there are rows for everyone to take a seat and it's only after everyone is inside and settled, that the doors close and the Sheriff speaks.

"Well, have at it. You've got till nine."

And then, he points to a clock on the wall that reads 12:00. Good luck.

Welcome to the trial post! Characters are free to discuss everything related to the trial here. They won't be let out of the room until 9PM when voting ends. Every character must vote and the voting post can be found here.

But why would they want that? [It's possible but. Why.]

[personal profile] flippity 2017-02-25 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe they didn't want us to waste time looking.

[ because they may be murderers but they know how tired everyone is, how nice ]

[That seems...nice....... DOUBTFUL BUT NICE, YOU JUST KEEP THINKING THAT, PAPIKA]

[personal profile] flippity 2017-02-25 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[ LOOK THE MURDERER WOULD HAVE JUST HAD TO GO AROUND SEARCHING FOR THE BODIES TOO IN ORDER TO LOOK INNOCENT MAYBE THEY WERE SAVING THEMSELVES FROM WASTING ENERGY???? let her have dreams ]
hydrokinetics: (Hailing from rock bottom)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-25 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[...what if he just reaches over and tiredly ruffles her hair.]

That's almost too considerate, but maybe you're onto something. We've had murderers confess, why wouldn't we have murderers who leave their kills in plain sight?

[personal profile] flippity 2017-02-25 06:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ she appreciates the hair ruffle. ]

And if there are no real clues as to who did it at the crime scene, there... isn't really a point to hiding the bodies, is there?
hydrokinetics: (what we gonna do ya'll?)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-25 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Guess not. Why exert the effort if they don't have to? [That's also disconcerting.] We should think about that in relation to where the bodies were, I think.

[personal profile] flippity 2017-02-25 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It'll be easier if we knew how many killers there were, but...

[ you know, that's exactly why they don't know how many killers there were so. SHRUGS.... ]
hydrokinetics: (When you hear a song from that big lady)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-25 07:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Hal won't tell us until we're up against a clock. I don't know what's changed from last week but we're on our own for a while. [Granted it doesn't help that there's only nine of them right now so.]
moraled: (Why does it hurt when I try to kill it?!)

[personal profile] moraled 2017-02-25 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I fear I do not know. [His brow furrows, frustrated.] It is a scene I have seen before in cases of murder that I have investigated in Labyrinthia, though I fear I could not speak to the killers' thought processes in those times either.

[He just has no idea]
hydrokinetics: (with everything falling down around me)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-25 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
...it could just be to make a point. Maybe if someone thought we were going to miss the most obvious answers since there's only nine of us now. There would have only been eleven even with Natalie and Will. If they weren't worried, why put in the effort to hide?

[He doesn't like that either though.]
moraled: (Don't suck it you're supposed to blow)

[personal profile] moraled 2017-02-25 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[... neither does he. He frowns.]

Tch. Mockery, then.

[ugh!!]
hydrokinetics: (Cannot seem to find my way home tonight)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-25 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Think about our murders last week, Mr. Barnham. Ana's body spread out in plain sight like that? That was probably mockery, too.
moraled: (Many emotional conflicts here)

[personal profile] moraled 2017-02-25 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[.... why.

WHY.]

You are correct, I fear. [A tired sigh.] There may be something to work off of there--who would care to mock us at this point?

[though someone could just be hiding that...shit]
hydrokinetics: (I ain't really sleep well)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-02-25 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Someone who doesn't even care about the rest of us that're left would be my guess. [So. That doesn't help.]
moraled: (classic foot soldiers)

[personal profile] moraled 2017-02-25 07:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[that narrows it down almost too much.

But.

He knows they both know that, so aside from quirking an eyebrow at Percy, he leaves that alone.]
