CURRENT POPULATION: 40
It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.
... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!
After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts.

Ana sets down her tea before he can even round the corner, ready to greet him. She smiles and nods as a hello.]
Just taking in the quiet for now.. It's nice every once and a while. [Better take a quick sip of that tea before it gets too cold.] Looking to have the kitchen all to yourself, I assume?

[ So, taking refuge in the quiet hotel seems to be a bit better! He doesn't feel like it'll relax anytime soon... Considering how people are still tense about the entire killing thing - Russell still has all that on his mind. ]
Well... Not really.. It's kind of difficult getting use to this place so I thought I'd walk around... The tea smelled nice, too.

Would you like me to make you some tea? It's as nice as it smells. Though, I won't stop you from going for a walk if that's what you'd rather do.

Oh-- uhm... [ He actually didn't expect to get offered anything... ] It's getting a bit late anyway, so I was thinking of just staying inside... Do you really not mind?

No, I don't mind at all. Much as the noise can get to me I can only stand so much quiet. It's a double-edged sword, in that way.
[She says this with humor in her voice as she moves to go make the boy some tea.]

[ If anything, he really can't say no to such a kind request or he'd feel bad. Russell's still awfully wary of a lot of people here, especially adults..! But look, he'll trust Ana because there's tea and she sounds nice!
So, he'll place his diary down on a nearby table and promptly takes a seat. ]

Not at all, it's a reasonable question. My name is Ana, it's good to meet you.

[ Russell just decides to bring his knees up to his chest, and wrap his arms around him. He watches Ana, though, just a tad bit curious.
She's wearing something over her eye... What does that mean? Is she hurt? He probably shouldn't stare. ]

[Not her favorite but she wanted some variety and it's what they had. Not like that's the real question Russell wants to ask anyway. She can tell that he's curious and really she doesn't blame him. It does stick out.]
Though if you have other questions on your mind you can ask. I won't be offended.

It's fine, it doesn't hurt. This happened years ago. [She brings her own hand to her eye, gesturing.] I was shot.

[ Well, not like... Being shot, but you know! ]
It doesn't bother you at all? [ It's not every day you meet someone that's missing... Something, and they seem just find and dandy! ] You must be really strong.

That last comment gets a bit of a wry chuckle out of her, though.]

Do you think... That can apply to this place... If we can ever make it out of here? I don't want to be here, really. But there doesn't seem to be a way out...
[ Guess you can kind of say it's home sickness? ]

There's always strength in survival, but there's a little more to it than that. Doing what we can in spite of the situation, helping one another and working toward our survival through small actions is also strength. It doesn't have to be momentous. [She pauses because, yes, that water is boiling. Ana turns to give it attention.] Survival also means not giving up, you know. Don't lose heart.

[ And naturally, Russell is only capable of saying pretty morbid stuff like that ... oops? Sorry Ana. ]

[She pours the boiling water into a mug.]
If you're talking about our current situation, though, it isn't hopeless. Of course death is a concern, but it isn't guaranteed. Just stay alert and don't give up. Death is more likely when you give up.
[Look Ana is all for lessons on mortality, that's why she's not sugar-coating this. But she's not one to go belly-up either and she's not going to let anyone else be like that either, damn it.]

[ He knits his eyebrows for a moment, and frowns. Oh... He wonders why she's saying that so easily. ]
We just met... You don't really have to watch me. Why would you say that?
[ Mostly because he feels like he doesn't deserve it... Isn't he just a stranger to everyone here? It's definitely strange. ]

[She walks back over to the table, setting the mug in front of Russell before reclaiming her seat across from him. And yeah that's a totally warranted question so Ana isn't upset or surprised by it.]
Whether we've known each other for years or hours, I wouldn't want anything happen to you. Not if I can help it. Besides, to survive it's important for us to stick together.
[Ana takes a sip. Unfortunately, she discovers with a grimace, her tea is cold.]

[ He doesn't sound too concerned when saying it, he sounds more curious than anything. A lot of people seem against it though.
But nonetheless, with a small nod, he picks up the mug! Though, he notices Ana's reaction after her sip. So, after a pause, Russell will offer the mug she made for him. ]
