CURRENT POPULATION: 40 It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings. ... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours! After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts. This post functions as the general mingle post for the week. [There she go indeed. Percy's left blinking at the invisible dotted outline that once contained Papika and he chuckles to himself, swimming to the shore and climbing out of the water, too. His clothes are soaked still and he's still pretty annoyed by that, but it doesn't stop him from walking his way over to the shed to see what's in there.]

Make sure to leave some for everybody else. I know some people have been coming by to fish in the mornings, too.

Kaaayyyyy.

[ it's said somewhat absently, like she's only half listening as she digs through the shed's contents. fishing poles... nope. nets... nope. ]

I think I found worms!

[hydrokinetics]

You think? [Papika if they're somehow snakes or something he swears to the gods above...but he's moving a few empty tackle boxes out of the way to look over her shoulder.]

[ it's snakes

no they are worms. she picks up a bucket of them, and even puts her hand in to... take one out to show it to percy. gross. ]

Will this work?

[Oh my god why is this happening.]

That's perfect. Think you can carry that back out to the dock? I'll grab a net and a pole.

[flippity]

[ this is your life now, percy.

she salutes and then runs out of the shed, bucket of worms in hand. ]

[hydrokinetics]

[And he jogs along behind her, carrying his fishing pole and net back toward the dock.]

The important thing about fishing is making sure they don't actually get hurt. That'd probably just make them more mad. [And it'd be rude, but whatever.] Know how to bait a line?

[flippity]

Nope!

[ her usual method of fishing is literally grabbing them from the water?? ]

Show me, show me.

[ once they reach the dock she sets the bucket down and turns her attention back to the fish expert. ]

[He sits himself down on the dock, feet immediately going back in the water as he lays the pole over his lap and brings the hook up with his hand. He's taking one of the worms from the bucket, carefully baiting the hook and keeping his hands out of the way so she can see what he's doing.]

It's not hard to do once you practice a few times, but you don't want to stab yourself. [He glances at the lake again.] What do you think? I'll be on pole duty and you can guard the net?

[flippity]

[ she watches the process very intently, as this is definitely an important life skill that will totally be useful later, unless she dies, in which case it'll be completely pointless.

she does pick up the net though. ]

Do you do this a lot?

[There could be fishing in the afterlife!! He smiles in approval when she grabs the net and with that he casts the line into the water.]

Nope. [That's pretty quick to answer.] It's just something I've picked up after a while. Normally when I want to talk to them they respond pretty fast.

[flippity]

If they aren't mad at us then maybe they're just scared because we're strangers?

[hydrokinetics]

Either that or it's more fish politics. [What in the world.] Are you scared to talk to strangers? [It's a stupid question since they're obviously talking, but he's still trying to figure her out here.]

[flippity]

[ she just nods her head when he mentions fish politics because, sure, that sounds like it could be a thing. ]

Everyone's a stranger until you talk to them!

[hydrokinetics]

[Just like everybody's nice until they decide to murder you, but details. He nods because he can agree with that, turning to shift the fishing pole to one hand and hold out the other to her.]

Percy Jackson. Just so we're not strangers anymore.

[flippity]

Papika!

[ she takes his hand and gives it a pretty firm and excited shake. ]

It's nice to meet you.

[hydrokinetics]

[This child...]

Nice to meet you, too. You seem to be handling all of this pretty well, you know that?
