DEPARTURE

It's time to go.

Most people are on the train by now. Settled into their cabins and among friends and loved ones. There are only three new arrivals left to board and once they do, Hal pulls a conductor's hat out from underneath the bar, tugs it on, and steps around it to the middle of the train. He opens his mouth to talk, voice filling the train.

"It's time to go. Stops happen once a day until everyone's departed and I already have your stopped listed. If you'd like to be prioritized, let me know, otherwise we'll go in order of death. Settle in and enjoy the ride. If there's anything you need, don't hesitate to ask, folks."

This, of course, means that those who died earliest (Manfred, Higekiri) will depart first while those who died latest (Barnham, Damian, Percy) will depart last. There's a stop for everyone, though those who want to get off together are more than welcome to. Hal pulls a notepad and pen out of his pocket later and people will notice that he goes around the train confirming stops with everyone. Whatever feeling Hal may have had to a character back in town isn't noticeable here -- he is simply a robot assigned with a job.

After that, it's all a matter of settling in and enjoying the ride. If that's possible for you, at least.

[Oh, Percy. Seeing him like this breaks his heart. He can't imagine how it must have felt to be the last man standing, and the same sharp pain he felt before he died returns to him. Pain for his friends, pain for the knowledge that they're all doomed to die — and pain for the fact that Percy Jackson was always destined to be the last man remaining, standing over the corpses of everyone he cared about.

Jason is quiet when he approaches, and even more so when he takes a seat next to him. There is nothing he can say to make Percy feel better over what just transpired, but... He can try.]

We won, Percy. We're all going home.

[Quietly, his tone soft.

And if his friend allows it, he'll wrap his arms around him in a lose hug. They're all safe now. Everything will be okay.]

[It's just like he'd told Jason not long ago. Even if there wasn't a guarantee, he would make it so. He would guarantee everything and make sure they won, but now...what was the cost?

It's why he can't look Jason in the eye knowing he blatantly lied to him. It's why he can't face him just yet, but when he sits he does allow for the hug and even drops his head on his shoulder. It's exhausting.]

...it's good to hear your voice again. [It's all he says at first because it's true. They can talk about home in a moment, but he wants to see how Jason is now that he's been here.]

[He laughs at that, but there's no real joy behind it. Tilting his head so Percy has more space to rest comfortably, he admits:]

My tongue feels too big for my mouth. It's... weird.

[So, yeah. That's his biggest complaint about the afterlife, so he's doing pretty well now that he's been here. He got to see all of their dead friends, and reunite with people he thought he would never see again — so it was definitely an improvement over living. However, he's more concerned about Percy, and he once again rubs circles into his back.]

You did what you had to do. Please don't blame yourself for it.

I can't believe that's a positive. [There's a sad sort of smile even as he allows his eyes to close just a little.]

I'm...I know. I know, but maybe you should be telling Damian that, too. I'm worried about him. Have you spoken to him yet?

I will. I have to. [Before it's too late, really.] The idiot said he was the only one allowed to disappoint... his dad, so I need to let him know I'm proud of him. No exceptions.

[But Damian isn't here right now and Percy is, so Jason can't tell him that just yet. To Percy, however...]

... I'm proud of you, too, y'know. In a weird "my friend is an asshole but I love him" kind of way.

You can tell him I'm proud of him, too. If he doesn't find me first I mean. [There's a sigh though when Jason continues.]

Dude don't be proud of a lying serial killer. [He's not even looking. It's how he feels right now.] I did what I had to do. That doesn't mean I did it the way I wanted. And I'm sorry.
