[ WEEK ONE – TRIAL ]

TRIAL

In the morning, the town comes back to life. Birds crow overhead, a snake nearby hisses, a lingering coyote dips behind a shop before disappearing into the wild. It's a frightening contrast to the stillness of yesterday but it doesn't mean it's over yet. After all, today is the trial. The Sheriff stands on the porch of the Town Hall and brings his hand up to his mouth to let out a whistle. He'll thumb back to the Hall behind him and very clearly state -- "Trial time, folks. Get in here and figure out who did it." And then he'll turn to leave before pausing and adding on, "Bring a snack or somethin' too. The Town Hall is set up more like a court house, a Judge's bench at the front but instead of at center, it's off to the side as if more for observation than participation. There's a table at the front of the room already holding a small box and a pad of papers and pen, for voting apparently. A side room containing only a metal gurney is next and today it's obvious why there's a gurney there at all with the corpse, resting right on top of it. Aside from that, there are rows for everyone to take a seat and it's only after everyone is inside and settled, that the doors close and the Sheriff speaks. "Well, have at it. You've got till nine." And then, he points to a clock on the wall that reads 12:00. Good luck. Welcome to the trial post! Characters are free to discuss everything related to the trial here. So... was this their purpose? Is Tiara free to go now or does she have to stay here with the rest of us?

She's free to go, yeah. After all this is done, at least.

We'll take care of her. [...one more thing though.] If they're not part of the game, do they have the same restrictions and rules we do? Like curfews and making us all equal. [Caps, if you will.]

Nope. Sure doesn't.

So if they have powers then they're still usable? [ HMMMM. ]

Did they have any?

Yep. Suppose I'd have to grant them back, huh?

Suppose so. You can grant and take away powers, I'm guessing. Do they have to specifically ask, or would you be able to do it if you wanted something from them...?

[sheriffexe]

They'd have to ask. I can do the second one too, but ain't in me to want something like that.

If someone came to you to plan out a... um... murd... the thing that you're making us do for no good reason, would you give them their powers back for that?

[sheriffexe]

Nope. No powers for a murder. Do it with your hands. Earn your keep.

No powers for murder, but what about covering your tracks? Anything in the rules against that? If a person's already dead, can someone who killed them use powers to protect themselves from being caught?

[sheriffexe]

[ Well, it seems like you finally pissed off the Sheriff because he looks mighty indignant at that question. ]

You -- you think I would let someone cover up their tracks with their powers? That's part of the murder, kid! A murder is choosing the victim, killing the victim, and getting away with it. There is absolutely no way I would ever allow someone to rig the system like that. You're supposed to kill on your own merit and survive the trial through your own merit. That does not involve cheating your way through it. The fact you'd even ask me that makes me very glad that you do not have your powers, kid, because maybe it'll give you a chance to use your god damn brain instead.

Luckily, he has me for that.

[ she rolls her eyes and elbows percy. ]

Come on, Seaweed Brain, let's let this particular theory of yours go.

[Well. He's definitely a little mollified and a lot pissed and he's kind of ready to let the Sheriff have it but...there's Annabeth. There's sudden Annabeth and he looks at her as some of the fire extinguishes in his expression.]

...fine. C'mon, Papika, you too. [We'll leave the Sheriff to being cranky with his wood :|]

[ she actually looks like she is about two seconds away from attacking the sheriff, and she even raises her leg to attempt to kick him! she snaps out of it though when percy calls for her and instead follows behind the demisquad.

she still sticks her tongue out at the sheriff though. fuck u dude, NEXT TIME ]
