It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.
... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!
Except there is, perhaps, a few things amiss.

Xion gratefully, and very guiltily, takes a rag and uses it to clean her spattered hands before working on the counter. ] Thanks. I'm really sorry! I thought I had it under control....

It's alright. You know what they say: no use crying over spilled-- well, it's spilled milk, not eggs, but the sentiment is there.
[And then her smile falters as she pauses momentarily, looking down at the rag in her hand before she continues]
I didn't get a chance to tell you, with all the chaos the past few days, but I'm glad you're alright. Volunteering like that was brave of you.

No, it's... [ Xion pauses, looking at the counter again. They get it cleaned up in short order, and she starts organizing the things she had on there. There's a hard sort of look on her face. ]
Thank you. But this is the least I can do to try and help everyone, so I'm okay with it.

You shouldn't have to shoulder these burdens alone.
[She's not saying this to argue, more making a statement that she'll support Xion next time she needs it, right now included with whatever Xion has been trying to prepare. Once things are set, Elizabeth turns back to her, smiling again.]
What is it you're trying to make?

Being offered help like this... reminds her of her friends. The ones she left at home.
Xion will smile when Elizabeth does, somewhat shyer, but it's there. ]
I was trying to bake a cake. It's my first time trying something like this, though... if you couldn't tell. [ The last part is said with a faint teasing edge. She can make fun of herself, too. ]

Well, it looks like you have all the ingredients right, now it's all about putting them in in the right order. We should probably start with the flour in the biggest bowl.

[ She actually does have a measuring cup out. The recipe called for it, and the name was self-explanatory enough for her to eventually figure it out.
Xion starts measuring out the flour, looking a little proud of herself. ]
Okay, what next?

[Elizabeth checks the book again, scanning the next few steps]
A cup of sugar and a teaspoon of salt. We should be certain of which is which, since mixing the two up would end badly.
