It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.
... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!
Except there is, perhaps, a few things amiss.
This post functions as the general mingle post for the week. Wanted Posters and other small events will be posted in top levels below. If there's any questions or requests, please send a PM or shoot a PP to robowest.
On the pinboard in the railroad station, three posters have been chosen at random to list under the "Most Wanted" sign. Any character that passes the board by today can spot them, faces posted for all to see. This week's Most Wanted are:
[ A new feature has popped up again today. Outside the main town, towards the direction of the desert and close enough to see from the windows of the hotel, a large tree seems to have popped up overnight. It bursts right out of the cracked dirt with little reason or explanation for it's presence.
Well, that is until you get close to it.
On one of the its large branches, three rotting corpses swing side to side from the nooses around their necks. Higekiri, Manfred von Karma, and Sakyou Sagihara can be found bound up, swaying in the wind, heads covered in a poor attempt to leave them some amount of dignity. ]
[ And in general sheriffing manners, the Sheriff can be found all over town throughout the week. Sometimes bringing in supplies to the shops and restocking the inventory. At other times, sweeping the floor over at the homestead and taking stock of the animals.
But mostly, sitting in his rocking chair and carving pieces of wood while chewing tobacco. ]
[ the sheriff's number one fan approaches him while he's tending to the animals, later on monday. she doesn't seem to be too pleased to be going up to him BUT WHEN DOES SHE EVER, REALLY ]
[ In the morning, Chane can be found in the homestead, silently enduring the attention of a speckled mare as it snuffs her hair and then eats an apple right out of her hand.
By the afternoon, she will have migrated to the railroad station with the intent of checking out this week's Most Wanted.
Once evening rolls around, she'll either be washing dishes in the hotel kitchen - (in which case, if you come across there then, prepare to be handled a plate you now must dry) - or sitting at her preferred seat in the lounge, a book rather ignored in her lap as she looks out the window.
Of course, there is always the wildcard option, in case you'd like to encounter her somewhere else!
[ Right at the start of the week, Xion can be found staring at the corpse tree with a very stony expression. She'll stare until the bodies are cut down, and then unceremoniously take her leave.
This week, Xion still hangs out with the Sheriff, curling up on the steps up to the Sheriff Station with a book in her lap, but it is noticeably less frequent than last week. She also, unlike the previous two weeks, cannot be found in the graveyard at all. ]
monday;
[ Today you can find Xion in the hotel kitchen, trying to cook. Keyword being trying. She's slowly learning, with some help, but she's still very new at this and honestly still doesn't know the names for many kitchen tools, meaning she just kinda. Has. To guess.
Today if you walk into the kitchen, or are even just passing by, you might hear a yelp of total dismay, followed by groaning. Trying to use an old-fashioned egg beater has not worked out for her. There is egg white just, just everywhere. ]
Jeez...
[ Well. Time to start to clean up. ]
tuesday;
[ Rather than hole up in the hotel, which is tempting to do, Xion decides to try and keep up her habit of wandering. This week she ends up at the watering hole with a bunch of books and her dog. For a time she can be found beneath the shade of a tree, peacefully reading and petting Pluto's head. At other times she can be found playing fetch with her dog, which ... is making her laugh and smile, like a lot, which has honestly become pretty unusual for her, so that's something.
At least, until Pluto, with a flick of his head, sends the stick flying into the lake.
And then goes charging in after it. ]
Pluto, no! Don't!
[ There he goes, soaring majestically off the dock and creating a big splash. Hopefully you weren't fishing or hanging out nearby.
Especially not when Pluto emerges from the water sopping went and tries to convince you to take his stick and play fetch some more. ]
wednesday-thursday afternoon &/or wildcard;
[ When she's not busy cleaning up various messes, Xion can be found at the general store, looking at various items (it seems almost like she's looking for something ... heavy), or ... at the mines, just kind of standing nearby and frowning severely at the entrance. ]
What do you think is in there, anyway?
[ That, or find her elsewhere throughout town! Feel free to hit me up at izanagis for planning. ]
[ Russell's at the watering hole because he's trying to fish again... And not catch a bunch of trash this time! He's determined to get something good... Maybe?
Once again, it's kind of different fishing in the real world as opposed to dream world? Yeah.
Though... If one thing he didn't expect is to see a dog rush by him -- Russell actually almost tips over..! He catches himself though so don't worry! Sadly the fishing pole... Falls into the water, and Russell can only stare at it. ]
Oh--...
[ Fishing pole.. :(
Upon seeing the dog though, Russell also just stares at the dog... Then around!? Someone help him... What does he do with dog??? Russell looks a bit nervous too... ]
[The corpse tree bothers him. Of course it bothers him, it's not what he was expecting and anyone nearby can see him staring at it for a moment before shaking his head and walking away.
As such, people can find him around town, though most frequently then can find him sitting in front of the hotel on the porch, Mrs. O'Leary snoozing in the sun and Percy playing with a deck of cards. It looks like he's playing solitaire, but it's more for the motions than anything. If he keeps his hands busy, maybe it'll help him think. Of course, anyone's free to interrupt him or tell him that he's wasting time. That's fine, too.]
Tuesday
[When he gets bored with that, he finds himself at the watering hole as usual. His clothes, for once, are actually on the dock under Mrs. O'Leary who's guarding them while Percy swims through the lake. Wet boxers? Who cares, he's getting used to this. Still, anyone who approaches will find him floating on his back and staring at the sky, oddly content with himself. If he spots someone familiar (hell, even unfamiliar), he'll turn his head to watch them for a moment.]
It's almost starting to feel like the distance is less every time I end up out here. Getting away from town, too?
Wednesday
[He seems to be poking around in the general store, but it's not clear what he's up to unless someone heads back into the hotel mid-day Wednesday and the lounge on the first floor. He's sitting in front of a lit fireplace balancing what looks like a shovel and a frozen pizza.
Yeah. So that's happening. Trying to cook a pizza with a shovel, good job Percy. Upon hearing footsteps or being interrupted though he'll tilt his head back and grin slightly.]
Do you think this counts for creativity points?
Wildcard
[Or just hit me for anything else throughout the week. He'll be around checking on people at varying points, but for anybody he comes across (especially if he knows them), he'll greet them with:]
How're you holding up?
[alternatively, hit me at alternatively for plotting!]
['Sup. Shinnosuke'll be approaching with his usual punchable smile, and provided that you're not one of the few he's already discussed this with, he'll be asking:]
This has nothing to do with the game, but incidentally, have you ever heard of the Labyrinth Disease?
tuesday:
[For the most part, Shinnosuke just doesn't want to deal with people, because people suck and are annoying, and so he's out in the homestead, lying in a patch of flowers (though at least unlike a certain someone, he's not made of pink and thus doesn't blend in...). His eyes are closed, as if he's sleeping. Or dead, if you're feeling morbid, but you know.
Try not to trip/run over him.]
throughout the week:
[It's weird not fighting on a daily basis; it's also a problem, because he then runs the risk of getting rusty and he can't afford that.
Thus, again out in the homestead, one might find Shinnosuke practicing hand-to-hand combat on his own, via shadowboxing—though he stops as soon as he notices anyone nearby.]
wildcard:
[Feel free to throw anything else! You can hit me up at snowesque for plotting.]
[noct's perusing the general store. not that he can't just grab more cup noodles and frozen pizza and be on his way—but there's a nagging, uptight voice of a good friend of his sitting in the back of his mind, reminding him that he has to eat better sometimes.
not that it'll make him eat his vegetables when he's the sort to pick them off even something like hamburgers, because tomatoes and lettuce are apparently gross too.
but his eye is caught not by the stuff that seems weird in an old west style store, but a small selection of goodies that actually... do belong. like. some varieties of licorice.
which noct is just staring at with a disgusted face.]
Why? [who even likes licorice, amirite?]
b - tuesday morning;
[it's too early to be alive.
if your name is noctis lucis caelum, that is. but umbra can't just come and go as he pleases like he does back home, so noct is out practically at the break of dawn to walk him and make sure he's well fed.
he's grumbling and yawning the whole way—maybe he needs a little bit of a morning pep-talk? some early bird who can try to convince him not to crawl back into bed for the rest of the day?]
c - tuesday afternoon;
[the early morning is too much for him—so sometime mid-afternoon, he'll be sitting outside the hotel, head dipped.
...he's napping.
he's totally just napping in the sun like some kind of lazy cat. bother him, it's probably fine.]
d - wildcard;
[he'll be checking up on people in various parts of town through the week, or by the watering hole as ever. gotta wind, all that. feel free to bother him, or prod me at ailerons to plot something!]
[AND HERE IS MILLA. . . on her daily breakfast run at the general store, stuffing her face with licorice. the sound of Noctis's bewildered confusion gets her to look up with her hand caught (literally) in the "cookie" jar]
[This is their third week here. By this point, Ezio's adjusted enough to put on Western clothing and generally understand the deal with different time periods and worlds. At the same time, there are still some things he doesn't understand. Like coffee makers.
He picked up some coffee from the general store, remembering when Antonio had told him about the drink. But now that he's in the kitchen he has no idea what to do. There's coffee and water everywhere, and Ezio's hitting the coffee machine, and it's not good.]
Pezzo di merda...
II. Tuesday
[In the common area of the hotel, Ezio has set up an easel and a canvas. This doesn't seem like a fun or relaxing activity for him, there's no paint by numbers. Instead, he's solemnly painting a portrait of Tiara. He's too focused on the portrait to pay any mind to people passing by. Ezio's obviously not Leonardo da Vinci, but the portrait is still rather impressive. Please imagine a very realistic Renaissance painting of a cute anime girl.]
III. Wildcard
As always let me know if you want to do something else or private conversations!
[You know what, may as well try to solve an enigma from this place.
Monday
Dang it. That's his wanted poster. Tarvek stares at it grimly, unhappy about it. He remembers last week Higekiri's poster was in here, and he ended being drafted as a Bandit. Coincidence? Who knows. It doesn't make him happy to see his STILL MISSPELLED GODDAMNIT wanted poster right there]
Why?
[He's been asking that question often nowadays. But yeah, he's standing there, wondering about it]
Does the Sheriff choose random people, or does he have method in his actions?
[Tuesday Night
If you go to the Homestead by the evening, you'll find Tarvek around, making preparations for an overnight stay. Blankets, food, lanters, other similar implements, everything he'll need to stay vigilant. He told Harry he would try to find out why the Homestead farm was so well cared for in comparison to everything else, so he will. It's something that interests him as well, yeah. Want to ask him about his plans?]
[Well. The corpse tree sure was a thing. Jason waits until all of the bodies are cut down, and then he disappears for a good hour or two. Late in the morning, anyone walking past one of the alley ways between buildings might get a sudden whiff of cigarette smoke. Should they decide to take a closer look, they'll easily find the culprit. Seems like Jason has plopped down on the ground, tracing figures on the dirt with one hand and holding a lit cigarette in the other. A half-empty pack can also be seen poking out of his pockets.
Once he notices he has company, however, he'll look up from whatever he's doodling on the ground to look at them. He might even put out his cigarette, too, depending on how much he happens to respect this person. Huh.]
... S'up. [He's. Trying.] You come here often?
[This is fine. Probably.]
option b: monday evening, train station.
[Anyone who comes check the WHOLE ASS EXPRESS out will find Jason tapping his fingers against the windows. The fog makes it impossible to see inside, of course, but... Someone might want to stop him before he considers taking a heavy object to the glass. Or maybe just keep him distracted when he hums and asks, to anyone who might be nearby:]
So... Question time. What do you think happened to the old train?
[Their sad, rickety old train.]
option c: monday - wednesday, around town.
[Throughout the week, Jason can be found trying (and possibly failing) to feed and/or befriend the stray dogs and cats around town. Anyone is free to join him, or maybe rub in the fact that he did not bring a Cute Animal CompanionTM with him. Either way, please wish this dumbdumb luck.]
option d: wildcard.
[Come up with your own scenario or shoot me a PP to hash things out! Let's do things.]
[ Nisha has apparently dressed down for this Monday morning. She's ditched her sheriff's badge and long coat in favor of a button-down shirt from the tailor, a little oversized on her, tucked into her pants and rolled up to her elbows. She's still pretty anachronistic, though; both her armor-plated boots and a boxy metal thing now visible at her hip have faintly glowing lights.
She also seems to be in a good mood... as she grins up at the corpses suspended from the tree. ]
Works better as a warning if there are gonna be people coming into town who didn't see 'em dead in the first place, but whatever. I understand the spirit, anyway.
b. wanted posters
[ Gotta check those out, even if it's probably pointless. She'll also inform anyone else swinging by to look at the Most Wanted— ]
Sheriff says the selection's totally random, or maybe done just for fun. Doesn't mean anything, in theory. But we are all looking at the same thing.
c. graveyard
[ Nisha wanders by the graveyard just for kicks. She still hasn't really figured out what the point of this place is. Is everyone here dead to start out with? Even if so, you don't generally stick a graveyard in hell. And the sheriff's clearly not sticking people in the ground when they're done here, so...? It's a mystery.
One she's not going to solve by staring at her own gravestone, so after a while she just snorts, amused. ]
Never really thought I'd get one of these, to be honest.
I don't know. Higekiri was a wanted poster last week, and he was selected to be a Bandit. If it happens again this week this could be more meaningful than we thought.
[Yeah, his poster is right there, but of course he's not counting himself as a Bandit suspect]
[ Chane lingers at the mouth of the mine, looking... well, looking as she always does, really. Her hands are tucked in her coat pockets, her expression not so much a frown as it is a slight, curious quirk of the mouth, ever downward.
Her, Milla, Sei and Natalie. That's the plan, apparently.
Has she beaten them here? Or all they waiting in an apprehensive cluster? Tune in next tag to find out! ]
[idk about anyone else, but Milla is here, one hand resting apprehensively on her hip. she doesn't like exploring unfamiliar territory without her sword, her spirit artes, or the power of the Four. but. . . if she keeps putting of her investigations for whenever she gets a weapon, then she'll never find a way out of here]
We should stay close together. This excursion will be dangerous.
[ Does anybody else need a stiff drink? Because Simon needs one, and can be found at the saloon, behind the bar, pouring himself some whiskey. Money the Monkey is playing the piano, by which I mean it's playing itself and the monkey only thinks he's playing it, adding in the occasional discordant note. ]
Everyday
[ Simon visits the farm daily to take care of the animals, despite the animals clearly already being taken care of. He seems to be taking a shine to one horse in particular. ]
[It seems the grotesque surprises don't end. Lust can be found around the hotel, at the saloon, or wandering the street anywhere but near the corpse tree. Really. As though the public executions weren't bad enough...]
[Not to mention the matter of sanitation.]
[If nothing else, the events of the weekend have given her a great deal to think about.]
Tuesday
[Tuesday Lust rouses herself to peruse the wanted posters, primarily those most prominently displayed for the week. Interesting, her roommate's supposed crimes... she'll spend a good deal of time pondering that one.]
[Well if there's one thing about this situation that's better than it was yesterday it's that they have a clinic now. That's good. The problem is that it's all bloody and trashed. So Ana's going to mosey to the general store to pick up some cleaning supplies, head on over to the clinic and set to work.
You're either going to find her elbow-deep in watered-down blood or with a mostly clean clinic surrounding her, righting the items that have been knocked over.]
tuesday and wednesday
[Ana is going to be checking up on people these days mostly, making sure they aren't up to no good or anything like that. Be a good child and check in with your grandmother. She hopes most of you are doing alright.]
thursday
[Ana isn't sleeping tonight. She wants to make sure no one does something stupid or comes into harms way. That or she's going to try and stop whoever intends to. So for now she's staving off sleep and hanging out in the hotel lobby. She may or may not have a gun on her person, you'll never know.
Depending on how shady you are she'll either smile politely at your or just. Stare. Judging you.]
[ Russell is only coming buy to the clinic for a bandaid because he cut himself on the fishing pole hook! One day... He'll conquer fishing. Though, he almost forgot about the clinic until he walked by it and saw a familiar figure going about their business inside.
So, he decides to peek in -- The nice old lady..!! Who is cleaning a lot of watered down blood... Oh. ]
I guess it's best if it's all cleaned up...
[ Isn't that Higekiri's blood... He kind of misses the sword man. Oh, yeah, right. Errr... ]
[on Wednesday evening, Milla will be. . . well, milling about the hotel lobby shortly after 9 PM, flagging people down and asking them to stick around because she has important things to say!! although she isn't going to force anyone to, if they really aren't interested.]
[once everyone who decides to listen to her are gathered, she speaks, arms folded over her torso]
Yesterday, Natalie, Seizaburo, Chane and myself investigated the mines to see what we could find. Unfortunately, the excursion didn't exactly go as planned.
[closes her eyes]
We first stumbled across a large, dark pit. Seizaburo and Natalie descended into it, where they found a pile of skeletons and dead bodies. Two of the corpses belonged to people from our group. As much as I hate to say it. . . to those of you who knew Ocelot, he is dead.
[a moment of reverent silence passes]
We were unable to identify the other victim, so if any of you haven't seen your roommate since Monday, please let me know. As I was not in the pit, I can't tell you how they died or how they wound up in the mines in the first place. Those are questions only Natalie and Seizaburo can answer.
[TWO PEOPLE WHO ARE. . . CONSPICUOUSLY. . . NOT HERE]
But as for those two. . . something happened with the skeletons in the pit. They were either taken by them, or killed by them, I'm not certain. I was unable to search the mines to further to discern their fates.
[thanks Chane!!]
If you have any questions, I'll answer them to the best of my ability. That is all.
[ When everyone wakes up on Thursday morning (or around 5AM, at least), they'll find Annabeth Chase currently locked up in the stocks. There's no lock keeping her in place but no matter what, the wooden stocks don't seem to budge. Looks like she's just stuck there for a while. ]
[ I MEAN SHE'S OBVIOUSLY GOING TO BE SIMMERING THE ENTIRE DAY, SO APPROACH AT YOUR OWN RISK although percy is probably there all day too after he figures out where she is, and he always grants annabeth like .01% chill. so it might be safe. maybe. percy will probably be there tho because he's a nerd. but like i guess if you want to talk to her you can???? she can't stop you???????? ]
[ Around midday on Thursday, Xion comes pelting down the main road of the town. For any who saw her start, she emerged from the clinic. She seems to have something of a limp while she runs.
She slows up to a trot as she gets closer to the hotel, and she'll start calling out at pretty much the top of her lungs: ]
We found Natalie! She's alive, Natalie is alive!
[ In front of the hotel she slows to a stop, pressing a hand to her chest and trying to calm her breathing.
Incidentally, she is covered in blood. Like, just everywhere, her clothes, her hands, her face, wow. It's a lot of blood. She holds her right leg slightly off the ground, like it might hurt, but otherwise she seems, you know, fine. ]
( ooc: natalie will jump into threads for anyone who wants to go visit her! she is in stable condition as of the time of this top level. )
[ Starting sometime around Thursday afternoon, the Sheriff can be seen digging a large hole near the tree. He'll still be working on the hole as the sun sets and curfew hits. Unfortunately, as night falls, it'll be too dark to see the tree or the Sheriff from the hotel windows. It'll be hard to say when he stops digging after that. ]

not that it'll make him eat his vegetables when he's the sort to pick them off even something like hamburgers, because tomatoes and lettuce are apparently gross too.
but his eye is caught not by the stuff that seems weird in an old west style store, but a small selection of goodies that actually... do belong. like. some varieties of licorice.
which noct is just staring at with a disgusted face.]
Why? [who even likes licorice, amirite?]
b - tuesday morning;
if your name is noctis lucis caelum, that is. but umbra can't just come and go as he pleases like he does back home, so noct is out practically at the break of dawn to walk him and make sure he's well fed.
he's grumbling and yawning the whole way—maybe he needs a little bit of a morning pep-talk? some early bird who can try to convince him not to crawl back into bed for the rest of the day?]
c - tuesday afternoon;
...he's napping.
he's totally just napping in the sun like some kind of lazy cat. bother him, it's probably fine.]

Monday

Once he notices he has company, however, he'll look up from whatever he's doodling on the ground to look at them. He might even put out his cigarette, too, depending on how much he happens to respect this person. Huh.]

[This is fine. Probably.]
option b: monday evening, train station.
So... Question time. What do you think happened to the old train?

Wanted Posters
[Yeah, his poster is right there, but of course he's not counting himself as a Bandit suspect]

So, he decides to peek in -- The nice old lady..!! Who is cleaning a lot of watered down blood... Oh. ]
I guess it's best if it's all cleaned up...

Thursday afternoon
She slows up to a trot as she gets closer to the hotel, and she'll start calling out at pretty much the top of her lungs: ]
We found Natalie! She's alive, Natalie is alive!
[ In front of the hotel she slows to a stop, pressing a hand to her chest and trying to calm her breathing.
Incidentally, she is covered in blood. Like, just everywhere, her clothes, her hands, her face, wow. It's a lot of blood. She holds her right leg slightly off the ground, like it might hurt, but otherwise she seems, you know, fine. ]
( ooc: natalie will jump into threads for anyone who wants to go visit her! she is in stable condition as of the time of this top level. )
