WEEK THREE

CURRENT POPULATION: 35 It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings. ... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours! Except there is, perhaps, a few things amiss. This post functions as the general mingle post for the week. Wanted Posters and other small events will be posted in top levels below. I think it's a bear trap... [yuna knows what those are she watches cartoons] Don't touch it or it'll bite.

[ she kneels down next to it, but at least she doesn't attempt to poke it or something. ]

If it bites then shouldn't we move it? What if one of the dogs come by.

[Yuna leans over next to her and just kind of...gently pulls her back by the shoulder a little...... having Papika that close to the bear trap seems like a recipe for disaster]

You're right, we shouldn't leave it just lying out here! [She steps sideways, tilting her head.] Where should we put it, though? [pppause] I don't know if we should do this by ourselves...

[ look the bear trap is still safer than skeleton hell a few threads up. it's fine. ]

Maybe we can take it to the hotel? [ of course that then brings up the question of HOW TO... MOVE IT THERE??? ] Should we get a grownup?

[ or a slightly older teenager who likes to pretend they're a grownup? ]

With everyone always going in and out of the hotel, I don't think that's very safe, either. Maybe we ought to get a grownup...

One of us should stay here to make sure no dogs or anything get bitten by it, too!

[Well. Instead of an adult she gets a Percy which kind of counts. He doesn't quite get what Papika's saying before she drags him back to where Yuna's waiting and he looks vaguely perturbed by this.]

Okay, what's going--[And he spots it.] Why do you two have a bear trap? I don't think it'll work on the Sheriff.

Hi, Percy! [he wasn't really who she had in mind in their search for an Adult but. it'll do for now]

It's not ours, it was just sitting here, and there's no way it can be safe to leave it sitting here... Do you know how to move one of these?

[ papika has a lot of faith in percy and believes that he will be the best grownup substitute that he can be. ]

Preferably without us getting bitten?

[ that part is important. ]

[Thanks for that. So now there's three dumb teenagers standing around staring at a bear trap while Percy's keeping his focus on it.]

Trust me, I'm not letting you two get bit. [On the other hand...] Depends though. Where do you two want to move it?

[cherrypuncher]

[immediately:] You'd better not get bit, either! [NO ONE HERE GETS TO GET KILLED BY THE BEAR TRAP BEFORE I DO]

We're still deciding... The hotel probably isn't a very good spot since everybody's always going in and out of there, but we can't just leave it outside where the dogs might wander into it, either.

We probably shouldn't take it very far either.

[ mostly because papika figures they might die or something if they attempt to stash it at the other side of the town?? ]

[There's a pause and he thinks for a moment, remember something someone said to him last week when they were discussing what to do with the camera.]

We could bury it. The dogs shouldn't dig for it and I don't know about you guys but digging around in the graveyard isn't exactly my idea of a good time. The other option is we set it off so it's already activated and closed.

[cherrypuncher]

I don't really want to leave it in the graveyard... Burying it anywhere doesn't sound very secure either, though. Is that how they work? It won't just open up again if we close it, will it?

[flippity]

[ she frowns at the graveyard idea; she definitely is a fan of that option either. ]

Maybe we should find a stick and poke at it then? And then hide it somewhere that someone might not look?

[ ... look there are certain people here she doesn't want to have a bear trap. ]

[This is what you get when you don't find a real adult, gods.]

I think so. Usually when a bear trap closes on a bear it clamps really tight and can't be loosened again without effort, I think. If we get it to close on something like a stick or a shovel somebody else would have to reset it.

[Hm.] What about locking it up in one of the jail cells? How many people in town do you think even know how to use one of these things?

I don't think that's hidden enough... [she doesn't really want anyone here having bear trap access either tbh] If it closes up, would it be safe for one of us to keep it?

We could hide it under one of our beds.

[ which won't attract suspicion at all, from anyone ever. ]

And at least then we can make sure no one else [ nui. ash. etc. ] takes it?

[hydrokinetics]

[A shake of his head.] I'm not risking Mrs. O'Leary touching it. [He runs a hand over his face and desperately wishes that they'd grabbed Annabeth instead. She's much smarter at this stuff than he is.] What if we activated it and then took it out to the farm? That's like an hour away, we can hide it somewhere really good on the homestead in one of the trees or something.

[This is getting nowhere, isn't it?]

Let's think about this for a second. You guys remember what showed up on the Sheriff's porch last week?

[cherrypuncher]

There are tons of animals out there, though, and lots of people go to the farm anyway... If we close it, I can put it in my room under my bed. We don't have any animals, and I trust Milla.

[She frowns, though, at Percy's question.]

That's where Xion and Shinnosuke-kun found the camera, isn't it? I'm sure this got put here for a reason, since bear traps don't just appear out of nowhere, but there's no good reason at all it could be used for.

Damian's has a kitty so I couldn't take it anyway.

[ look at this point papika will believe anything. ]

Maybe he's going to make a bear attack us next? [ she turns her attention back to the trap. ] It doesn't seem as useful as the camera.

[hydrokinetics]

[A wince. All right, all right.]

I'm only sending it with you if we close it. [That said:] The only thing I can think of is the Sheriff set it out to see if we'd use it to stop this week's bandits...if there are any this week. The camera showed Higekiri and Manfred and we know what happened to them. What if this is supposed to be a test of some kind?

[Like. What if they're supposed to leave it alone? They really should have grabbed a better adult.]

[Yuna spends a moment looking at the bear trap, then shakes her head.]

I think using it like that is a bad idea. There are too many of us for there to be any way to be sure it would catch a bandit, even if there are any, no matter where we put it.

...And it's too cruel. Someone being hurt so badly... [She shakes her head, looking serious as she continues.] Besides, if it does catch someone, and something...happens... [death. death happens] ...the person who set it might be in trouble. If it's a test, this is my answer. I think we should close it, and I'll keep it so there's no chance of an accident happening, or anyone using it for anything bad.

[flippity]

I think the town is too big anyway for that to work. Like, um... wouldn't it only be useful if you were already suspicious of someone and decide to trap them? Because otherwise there are too many places you could hide it.

[ it'll kind of be like setting up a land mine and just hoping that your target would mosey on over it?? ]

But Yuna's right. It's way too mean! I think everyone likes having their feet.
