[ WEEK THREE ]

WEEK THREE

CURRENT POPULATION: 35

It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.

... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!

Except there is, perhaps, a few things amiss.

This post functions as the general mingle post for the week. Wanted Posters and other small events will be posted in top levels below. If there's any questions or requests, please send a PM or shoot a PP to [plurk.com profile] robowest.

[Jason's listening attentively, nodding at the appropriate places and storing information away for later... until the skeleton pit is brought up. He immediately pales.]

Wait— You can't be serious. Natalie and Seizaburo couldn't have just...

[Died? Disappeared? He doesn't know what's worse.]

Why couldn't you keep going? They might have still been alive yesterday!

[. . .]

[as annoyed as Milla is at Chane for knocking her out and forcefully dragging her out of the mines, she also doesn't want to throw her under the bus so quickly]

I wanted to continue searching for them. I didn't want to leave the mines without knowing their fates.

But I became-- incapacitated.

[A bit more sharply than is strictly necessary:] You were injured?

[It's the first thing that comes to mind with the word "incapacitated", even though he can't see any obvious injuries on her.]

[she gets it. she was pretty sharp with Chane while arguing her stance on staying, after all]

No. Not quite.

[well, she can't avoid it forever]

Chane forcibly removed me from the mines when I refused to leave with her. I can only assume she did it because she didn't want there to be more than two casualties.

She—

[Well. That's a thing. Jason's expression will be rapidly shifting here, going from shock, to anger, to being absolutely livid. It seems for a moment that he's about to stomp off and blame Chane for all of this, because how could she leave them behind? That's the same as murdering them, right? Natalie and Sei deserved to be saved, too.

But a second later he's gritting his teeth, delivering a swift kick to the nearest piece of furniture. He understands, even if he doesn't want to.]

Goddamn it. How the hell is that fair?

[HER TOO, JASON. she felt the exact same way. her expression remains even when Jason punches the wall, although she does fold her arms over her torso]

It isn't. Nothing about this town is fair.

. . . Chane's intentions were good, however angry her actions made me.

[a breath]

But until I can confirm Natalie and Seizaburo's deaths, I am choosing to hope that they're still alive.

I know her intentions were good. I understand that. I just don't understand how someone could...

[Leave their friends behind to die, he means to say. But he cuts himself off before finishing that sentence, exhaling sharply.]

Those two are too stubborn to die. [Or so he hopes.] I'll believe it once I see their corpses. Not before.

[she doesn't comment on his lack of understanding, because truthfully. . . she does get it. Chane's course of action was the logical one, and perhaps in the past, Milla may have made a similar decision]

[but that was the past]

Too stubborn to die sounds like an apt description. I intend to return to the mines to search for them again. I assume you'd go, too?

Duh.

[If there's even a sliver of a chance of finding Natalie and Seizaburo alive, he's taking it.]

Let me know when and I'll be there. I'm not going to sit around waiting for the mines to spit them back out.

Of course.

[she smiles]

It's definitely time to focus on what we can do from here on out, not what could have been done in the past.
