WEEK THREE

CURRENT POPULATION: 35 It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings. ... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours! Except there is, perhaps, a few things amiss. This post functions as the general mingle post for the week. Wanted Posters and other small events will be posted in top levels below. They probably will. [Thanks for that, Percy.] We've seen it the last couple of weeks. Nowhere's really safe just yet. At least this place has the advantage of being so far away from the main part of town.

[That's also a disadvantage.] I don't think people would want to walk an hour to get out here just to do something like that.

[Unfortunately, he's not wrong. Riku frowns, looking out over the water.]

I'd say it's more likely someone will try to hide the body here.

[Drowning is also an option, but that would involve a murderer tricking their victim into coming out to the watering hole in the first place...]

If somebody felt like carrying a body for an hour's walk in the dark, sure. I'm not sure that's totally viable for most people, do you?

[...like he's thought about it, but that seems like a stretch.]

[Percy's got a point. Riku's so accustomed to darkness now that he didn't even think about that, even if he ought to have. He shakes his head with a wry smirk, acknowledging the point.]

That's fair. They could always use a horse to transport it.

[But talking about murders like this, so casually, brings him to a different thought. Riku takes a seat on the dock, absentmindedly reaching out to see if Mrs. O'Leary will let her pet him.]

Maybe we should take another look at that list and see if we can come up with something useful from it. It hasn't done us any good in the past couple weeks.

[Mrs. O'Leary's comfortable laying on Percy's clothes for the time being, but she does sniff at Riku's hand curiously before whining unsurely. Sure, strange darkness boy, pet her. She doesn't mind.

Percy, meanwhile, continues to float along.]

You mean the wanted list? It could be something to look into since we know at least last week one of the bandits was on it. Unless you mean the original list you and I talked about with everybody who's a murderer.

[Yesssssssss more dog pets! Riku likes dogs a lot, so she gets pets and probably some scratches under the chin or behind the ears too.]

Both.

The wanted posters outside the train station make a good place to start, but I don't think we can say for certain they're reliable just yet.

[She's fine with that. She's even wagging her tail like a good dog. Percy, on the other hand makes a face from his place in the lake.]

They're completely unreliable but after what happened with Higekiri I don't think we can totally rule them out either. It's some combination we're not seeing...unless you want to believe everything truly is random here.

[heroinwait]

[That? That actually gets a snort out of him.]

I wouldn't be surprised if it was. It seems to me like they don't care who gets killed, as long as someone dies. Everything else is just designed to goad us into playing along.

At any rate, we can compare what's happened so far with the information we've got, and see what we can come up with from there. Who knows? Maybe we'll find something useful.
