[ WEEK FOUR ]

WEEK FOUR

CURRENT POPULATION: 28

It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.

... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!

After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts.

This post functions as the general mingle post for the week. Wanted Posters and other small events will be posted in top levels below. If there's any questions or requests, please send a PM or shoot a PP to [plurk.com profile] robowest.

[she wrinkles her nose]

Why? Charred food has no palatable taste. It's just burned.

[for how much she sucks at cooking, she at least knows a lot about flavor and taste. her gaze flickers towards the knob to which he's pointing, and she flips down the heat to low]

The recipe did say medium-high heat. I thought that's what I had it on. . .

[ Humans are weird, dude. Super weird. Some just really like charred up meat? Anyway, Russell just kind of ... Looks at Milla though. Medium high doesn't mean TURN IT UP ALL THE WAY! Gosh! ]

Where's the recipe...? Medium-high is... [ Uhh... How to explain it. ] If High is 10 and Medium is 5... Then you'd probably pick 7..? [ Does that make sense? ]

You'll burn something more than just the steak at this rate. . .

[well those humans are weird??? she likes her steak MEDIUM-RARE as all steak should be]

The recipe is here. [she taps the cover of the cookbook she was using]

But if that's the case, and the heat should be on "7", then. . .

[glances at the knob, then the burnt steak]

[promptly removes the pan from the burner, marches over to the trashcan, and dumps the failed food experiment into it]

Let's try this again, shall we?

[ Goodbye failed steak... You will not be missed.

While Milla throws away the steak, Russell takes a peak at the cookbook. He does raise an eyebrow at the kind of steak, because it's something he never heard of! Garula? But you know, he won't question it.

He's not a good cook... But hopefully he can do this? Following directions is EASY. RIGHT! ]

We just have to... Make sure we don't burn it, right..?

[ How do you even cook steak... ]

That's right. I imagine that means making sure it cooks at the right temperature for the right amount of time. Perhaps ten minutes or so on each side?

[this is a guess because the cook book doesn't say exactly how long the steak needs to be heated. whatever!! she's going to try it, evident by the way she places the pan back on the burner and covers it in cooking oil again]

But the oil needs to be heated first, of course.

[ Russell can only give her a small nod. ]

Uhm, someone I knew use to say... Sometimes you shouldn't follow the recipe and go just by "how it feels"..?

[ He pauses for a moment, frowns, then just shakes his head. ] I guess that doesn't make much sense...

[ SO... after another pause Russell will ask a question instead. ] How do you know when it's heated enough?

[aha! she may not be a good cook, but she knows what Russell means]

It's less "how it feels" and more "how it tastes." Those who don't need recipe books are the best chefs out there.

[gives the pan a shake to evenly coat the bottom with oil]

I suppose that's my problem. . . I don't know. I'm just guessing.

Oh... That sounds really cool.

[ Maybe he should watch Gardenia cook more, her food was pretty good. . .

But he just stares at the pan, curiously as he watches the oil move around. He's not... Too sure either. The second steak might come out just as bad as the first one at this rate..! ]

I don't know either... [ Well, he'll wave his hand over the pan a little bit, trying to feel for the heat. ]

It feels hot enough..?

Ah-- don't burn yourself. When the oil is hot, it pops and splatters all over the place.

[waves at his hand!!]
