 CURRENT POPULATION: 14
It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.
... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!
After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts.

Haven't we all?
[there's a bit of ruefulness in her voice as she recalls how quickly their numbers in this town have dwindled]
It seems like only yesterday we arrived here by train. How quickly time flies. . .
[when you're, uh. "having fun"]

[ He can agree that everyone may have had a rough time, but he also thinks some of them have had more than others. He's been quite lucky, he thinks, but he's also not inclined to go prying open any of those closed buildings. His curiosity wasn't that strong. ]
It does, doesn't it? It feels like both an eternity and no time at all.
[ He tucks away one of the bookmarks into the mailbox, though it comes with a light, thoughtful noise. ]
That's fitting, in a way. This place does feel beyond time.

[Hannibal is far smarter than Milla and like half the Whole Ass teenager population in that regard. she has no idea where most of those who were injured would be right now if he hadn't been there for them]
Beyond time, is it. . . [ha] I suppose that's one way to put it. The Sheriff did hint at the beginning of this game that there may be a way to bring those who have died back to life. For that to occur, this place would have to be beyond the normal rules of our respective worlds.
[where people who die usually stay dead.]

[ Hannibal laughs softly and shakes his head, not quite embarassed by the attention, but definitely humble in accepting her thanks. ]
Please. There's no need. My assistance is lent because I wanted to and because I had a duty to do so. It's thanks enough that you're all doing well.
[ He glances to her and smiles wryly before shrugging ]
Relatively speaking, at least.
[ Where the point of comparison is, yeah. Dead. So. He turns back to putting the bookmarks in their proper mailboxes, but he nods more thoughtfully this time. ]
Personally, I would say that goes without any doubts. All of the things people have told me about where they come from... It would be delusional at best where I'm from. So, I must admit, at this point, I would believe nearly anything to be possible.

Relatively speaking.
[she repeats, although she doesn't seem regretful. she's tired, yes, but still stands by the choices she made. as Hannibal continues to sort through the bookmarks, Milla begins to flip through the ones she has until she reaches the one created for the good doctor himself]
As would I. It took some time getting used to this idea of. . . different worlds. [a beat] But I suppose after five weeks, we've all become desensitized to the abnormal and strange.
[and with that, she hands him his bookmark with a nod. she figures she should give it to him in person, instead of slip it into his mailbox, since he's already here helping her]

[ Because even with his "hobbies" before, he still feels almost comically normal in comparison to some people. Milla would be one, considering she isn't even human, though she's hardly the only one where Hannibal has gotten that sense.
As she holds out the bookmark, Hannibal pauses in putting his stack away and reaches out to take it. He looks at it and flips it over with a smile. It's soft and fond. ]
—I'm surprised she remembered. I mentioned it was my favorite flower when we first spoke. It seems like quite a long time ago now.

It does, doesn't it? [she chuckles lightly, though it's without humor] She also remembered I had more than one favorite color. Out of everyone here. . . I think Yuna was the most thoughtful and kind.
[perhaps that's why Milla had come to care for her so quickly. she had an affinity for the do-gooders of society, after all]
