Well, there's a few things here. There's a large pool of blood that turns into a drag of blood heading towards the clinic. There's a black cloth bag of the type the Sheriff uses on execution victims. There's a few torn pieces of rope and a knife, kicked off to the side lying in the dirt.

So he does. He confirms and he moves, running through town to head back toward the hotel...and his eyes land on the clinic instead.

Because there are two bodies lying on the floor just inside the clinic. Natalie Goodman and Hannibal Lecter. Both are covered in a pretty solid amount of blood and both have some pretty nasty wounds. Hannibal has a bear trap going right through his leg and Natalie has some slides on her arm and a massive wound on the side of her head.
