CURRENT POPULATION: 40 It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings. ... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours! After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts. This post functions as the general mingle post for the week. [ It's fairly late at night, when Diego enters the kitchen, giving it a wary look around like he's expecting trouble. He notices the old woman and narrows his eyes for a moment, and then relaxes very deliberately, confident smile sliding onto his face ]

Oh, convenient. You can assist me.

Good evening to you too.

[Calling you the fuck out on your manners, buster brown.]

[ Huffs, maybe annoyed, but it mostly stays off his face ]

I think not many would agree with you. This place has been sold to us as fairly dangerous! And I think that's putting people on edge.

[beyeotic]

That's perfectly reasonable, but greeting you is to be polite rather than to state facts. If I wanted to do that I might say, "You're being very rude, start over and then we'll talk" instead.

[ Being rude is a skill though. But, alright, it's not his only skill ]

[ He shifts his body weight, body language going much more open and welcoming, and gives her a very small, cordial nod ]

Good evening, ma'am. You've made it look very inviting here, compared to much of the rest of our surrounding. I couldn't help but be drawn in.

[beyeotic]

[Ana folds her arms and squints. Don't get fresh, young man. Even if he's just being facetious she's still going to be a little more receptive.]

What is it you want from me, Mr. ... [Whoever you are.]

[saurloser]

Diego Brando; Britain's top jockey, and soon to be America's.

[ He sounds so proud, all proper English accent and everything--more proper than it'd been a few moments ago, even. He gestures at the cup she holds ]

I'd like some tea, but I can't make it for myself.

[beyeotic]

[Ooooh so he's just a self-important guy who can't take care of himself! Ironically Ana's view of him immediately improves.

She chuckles.]

A British man who can't make tea, what are the odds. [She says as she gets up to go make him tea.] Don't worry, I'll show you.

[saurloser]

I appreciate it! It's a terrible predicament, not being able to do for myself.

[ He follows her, trailing slightly behind ]

[beyeotic]

Oh, surely.

[Mm the sass is thick but she's still got humor in her voice.]

What's stopped you from learning such a.. [she hesitates to say] skill?

[saurloser]

I didn't say I didn't know how, I said I couldn't.

[ Perhaps the slightest edge of fussiness. Diego Brando does not want to be mocked! Even lightly by grandmas! ]

[beyeotic]

You... couldn't?

[This is legitimately confusing.]

[saurloser]

Yes. I couldn't. That's what I said.

[ Trying real hard not to be snotty. So hard ]

Are you making the tea now.

[ It's too flat to really pass as a question, but he's making. An effort. ]

[beyeotic]

[It's so clear he's making an effort to not be an asshole when he's clearly an asshole and honestly Ana can't tell if she's appalled or thinks it's hilarious.

She takes a mug, a tea strainer a tin of loose leaf tea from the cabinets.]

Might I ask why you can't, or am I overstepping my bounds?

[Cuz there's clearly a story here.]

[saurloser]

[ He watches her, eyes very clearly tracking her hands as she takes things from the cupboard ]

I could do it if you handed things to me.

[ That's not really an answer is it ]

[beyeotic]

[Oh by all means. Ana holds a spoon and the tea strainer out to him.]

If you're sure.

[beyeotic]

[She'll do ya one better.

Opens the tea tin.]

[saurloser]

[ Snorts, and takes the items she offers, though he sets the tea strainer down so he can focus on the tin. He even manages to get the spoon into the tea tin like a normal person, though it's maybe abnormally soon after she's removed the lid, and then just... stands there. Tea-filled spoon in hand as he glares slightly at the counter, eyes flicking back and forth like he's searching for something. His gaze passes over both the strainer and the mug she'd pulled down earlier without pausing, like they don't register at all ]

Where did they go...? Point them out.

[beyeotic]

Where did what go? The mug?

[What's happening?]

[saurloser]

Yes, the mug. Which one--?

[ He extends his free hand out towards the counter, slowly, palm spread--trying to search the missing items out by feel, but gently, like he knows he could knock them over. ]

[beyeotic]

[Oh. Oh okay she gets it.

Ana places the mug in front of Diego's hand.]

There you go. I'll start some water.

[saurloser]

[ yesssss, he, Diego Brando, has found the mug. A victory, for him.

He places his free hand on it, and then frowns again. Instead he places the hand holding the spoon on the mug, just resting his hand there to keep track of it, and gropes around the counter for the tea strainer. Fortunately it's near enough by that he doesn't knock anything off the counter or otherwise before he finds it, and he looks downright pleased with himself as he gets the strainer into the mug and the tea into the strainer ]

There, you see. I'm hardly incapable.
