It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.
... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!
After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts.

[Okay but he didn't ask for this life? He's awkwardly trying to sidesteps some of the hens, noticing that he can't get very far and resigning to his fate.] Nobody's organized a jailbreak as far as I know. Think people are really that scared of the consequences?
no subject
So for that, he just lets Percy suffer with the chickens for a while.] The fact they are in the jail at all means it's something bigger.
[Relenting, he tosses some scratch in another direction to lead the hens away from Percy's feet.] People who haven't learned to master fear are always controlled by it.
If no one has tried yet, someone will sooner or later. They'll feel sorry for them. It's a fifty percent chance. Fifty percent we help them, and they help us. Fifty percent we help them, and then they kill us.
no subject
You sure it's not just the Sheriff being a jerk? Almost seems more likely at this point. [Once the hens scatter and move after their food Percy takes a step out of the way to give them more distance. On the other hand, he holds up both hands because whoa, we have a badass over here, apparently.] Pretty sure most of the people here are still in Fear 101. Not quite master-levels.
[There's a disgruntled noise of agreement though.] Two of them against forty of us could be bad if there's something up with them. So why haven't you tried yet?
no subject
Therefore, the android runs on a set of algorithms that give it parameters. Sometimes, the parameters can be so large it makes the android seem "real," though it's still limited in some way. The Sheriff more than likely has employers; I don't think that is a lie.
[Finally, he looks at Percy again.] Are you a metahuman? [He's starting to think about this. There's people with powers in his world. Aliens. Accidental acquisitions. Papika's hoverboard wouldn't work when they found it in their room, but she claimed it could.]
Are you supposed to have special nonhuman powers?
no subject
What would make you ask something like that? Have you met other nonhumans here already?
no subject
no subject
[Okay no definitely people. But he'll just feel this out for a bit.] What kind of nonhumans do you have where you're from?
no subject
no subject
You know, people who are nonhuman usually can't go around announcing it to everybody. [But.] All I'm asking is what makes you think they're here just because you have them where you're from. [...probably for the same reason he and Annabeth assumed they might not be the only non-humans but shh.]
no subject
I'm guessing you're one with how much you're avoiding my question. Do you not want anyone to know because you don't have the powers you should here? [Heh. Suckers.]
no subject
I don't know. Do you not want anyone to know what you really look like? [He gestures to the domino mask which. Isn't that effective? Not really?] What's with the look anyway?
no subject
It's a uniform. ["Disguise." He seems somewhat disgruntled about being called out, but had forgotten not many people here would know Robin (or Batman) like they would in his universe.] We don't mix our identity with our work because it creates dangerous conditions. For us, but also for the people we know.
We apprehend violent criminals the police can't handle.
no subject
Where I'm from, we don't have uniforms but we try not to reveal what we are because it's just as dangerous for people around us. Especially mortals.
[So there's your answer, Damian.] We fix things that threaten civilization, things most people can't even explain. It's our job as heroes.
no subject
[Damian doesn't consider himself a hero, not by a long shot. Other people may, but he knows he has a lot of redeeming to do.] My father is a "hero." He works with a "league" of others sometimes--The Justice League. Mostly, he works alone with us. The "Family." [SO MANY AIR QUOTES.]
Batman. That's his alias. He doesn't kill, and neither do we.
no subject
Ignoring the fact that DC exists in the PJO canonPercy doesn't exactly seem surprised to hear any of this. The airquotes don't bypass him either since he's used to it himself, and once Damian starts to explain he even smiles a little.So. That's what this is about.]
I don't think we've ever been described as metahumans, but sure. [A tilt of the head.] Let me guess. Sometimes you guys get busted by the police for "helping" and stuff because they can't explain what you just did to save the city? You mentioned there're metahumans where you're from but...unless your dad's actually a giant bat I'm also guessing you're mortal? Which means you probably know how to fight.
no subject
Technically, we're vigilantes, and the legal system defines us as being outside the police or army. Yes, sometimes, the police are required by law to try to apprehend us, but we out-maneuver them.
The Commissioner of the police force is a good friend of my father, however. He helps us, and we help him.
[A sigh. With the last little bit of scratch, Damian turns the bucket upside and dumps it out, then lets the bucket hang by his side.] Batman doesn't die so easily, so I don't think I would consider him mortal.
But biologically, yes, he's mortal. [Something, like Percy, none of them want any enemies to really be aware of exactly. Kills the fear aspect.] We are all human, but we've been trained in extensive forms of martial arts and weaponry, among other things. Most of the others in the Justice League are metahumans or aliens. Superman is a Kryptonian, for example; Wonder Woman is an Amazonian.
The Flash is a metahuman. His abilities aren't racial.
no subject
I think the mortal world would see us kind of like that, too, since what's legal isn't always important for us to get things done. [He's broken a lot of rules to chase down monsters.] Must be nice to have an in.
[His eyes flicker to the scratch on the ground, then back to Damian as he processes that. A man who's built himself up to be something powerful? He knows a few mortals like that, but even so, Rachel had some help with the Oracle of Delphi. But it all makes sense to him and it's for that reason he slips his hands in the pockets of his ripped up jeans, more relaxed and open to explaining himself.]
As somebody captured by the Amazons? Can confirm they're pretty scary ladies, but they're good fighters. [It was nice when they joined their side of the fighting.] Even if our abilities are inherited and part of us, we still have a training camp we work out of. We all have different ones though, so maybe that's more alien? I don't know. [A soft huff, and he gives Damian a half-smile.] Pretty sure "divine" covers it. [At least that's how Annabeth explains it sometimes and he figures it's for the best.]
no subject
Wonder Woman makes up more than half the rest of those idiots in the Justice League combined. Sometimes, I think she's the only one with a brain besides Batman. [Someone is a #fan, but shh. Damian still isn't big on the whole heart over mind thing. Yet.] What do you mean, "divine"?
[Damian gives Percy a rather queer sort of glance. He's not the religious type, go figure.] Like gods?
no subject
[But he just shrugs a little and nods.] But yeah, those guys. [He had a hard time grasping it when he first found out, too.] You can see why we keep it quiet.
no subject
What kind of gods? Egyptian? Greek? Native?
no subject
Me specifically? Greek. But I have friends who're kids of gods from the Roman pantheon. [Sadly Percy is not from a point in which he knows there are Egyptian magicians and Norse demigods. Oh well.] I didn't believe it at first either.
no subject
And he's going to die in the future (again?) when he finds out Clark has had a brat he has to learn to work with. Fucking Jon.] Do you save the world from Titans?
no subject
Titans were last summer. This year it's the giants. [And Gaea.]
no subject
Minus Jason. Jason doesn't count.] My world is the same. Batman and the rest of us protect Gotham City and some of the surrounding areas such as Bludhaven.
The League and other heroes protect the entire planet. We've had to deal with all manner of idiotic happenings: robots, aliens, evil masterminds. Even each other. There's plenty of fools who try to mind control Batman and Superman and the rest into fighting one another. It happens to Superman more often than not because he's nearly immortal.
no subject
[Likewise, he's not sure how this conversation won't come back to bite him in the ass later but he's listening and he's interested in what Damian has to say since he's handling this news fairly well.]
I'll see your robots, aliens and evil masterminds and raise you monsters, minor gods, and Mother Earth herself. [It's not meant to be "outdoing him" or anything of the sort, but more of a way to relate that he gets it. The world sucks and it's hard but he gets it. He blanches a bit at the word "mind control" and "fighting one another" because he has had enough experience with that thank you very much.] Try as in they don't succeed? They never know when to quit, do they?
