 It's time to go.
Most people are on the train by now. Settled into their cabins and among friends and loved ones. There are only three new arrivals left to board and once they do, Hal pulls a conductor's hat out from underneath the bar, tugs it on, and steps around it to the middle of the train. He opens his mouth to talk, voice filling the train.
"It's time to go. Stops happen once a day until everyone's departed and I already have your stopped listed. If you'd like to be prioritized, let me know, otherwise we'll go in order of death. Settle in and enjoy the ride. If there's anything you need, don't hesitate to ask, folks."
This, of course, means that those who died earliest (Manfred, Higekiri) will depart first while those who died latest (Barnham, Damian, Percy) will depart last. There's a stop for everyone, though those who want to get off together are more than welcome to. Hal pulls a notepad and pen out of his pocket later and people will notice that he goes around the train confirming stops with everyone. Whatever feeling Hal may have had to a character back in town isn't noticeable here -- he is simply a robot assigned with a job.
After that, it's all a matter of settling in and enjoying the ride. If that's possible for you, at least.

Hey.
Barnham does freeze when Russell attaches himself to his leg, but... it's good to see him. It's really, really good, despite everything, to see Russell like this now.]
Young Russell...
[...And, quietly:]
Thank you...for your letter.
no subject
Oh... Yeah. Did you like it?
[ He worked hard on that picture of Constantine... When will he get to pet him? He did his very best to write a good letter for Barnham! With Sara's help but you know... He's doing his #best. ]
...... You don't have to do scary stuff like that again, you know. Please, don't....
[ IT SCARED HIM... ]
no subject
[It was a lot, but having those letters helped keep him going. It reminded him that...... there was something he was fighting for--for all of them, no matter what.]
I... I have done what I felt needed to be done, Young Russell. There is nothing more, and so...
[Don't be scared??? Slowly, he rests a hand on the top of Russell's head.]
no subject
Russell will at least let go of his leg now, relax a bit at the hand on his head... Head pats! Nice. ]
Uhm... Well, it's done now? And you don't have to... Be sad, you know-- because we're all going home.
[ Gosh, Barnham... Russell is supposed to be the gloomy one here? ]
I think, everything will be better from now on, and you helped with that......
no subject
It'd be nice if he could shake off what he'd done so easily, but... he can't, not really. It's so against everything he knows and believes in to be right... it hurts. That he failed to uphold his duty...
He hates it.]
... I did what I needed to do, and nothing more. However, there is... nothing honorable about my actions either. I should not be congratulated for that. [NOT FOR MURDER...]
no subject
Uhm... I don't really know much about honour, so...... Even if murder is bad -- [ HONESTLY, RUSSELL IS LIKE FOURTEEN, BARNHAM... What should he say! ]
I'm not really congratulating you, but...... Like I said before, you're really strong so you shouldn't be so sad. A lot of people look tired, but I think they're happy because they can go home to better places now..? That's good, right?
[ Yeah. Yeah? Yeah! ]
no subject
Well, it's close enough. This isn't Russell's burden to bear, and so wryly, Barnham shakes his head.]
That is certainly good. [He's not going to put this all on Russell's shoulders, no matter how exhausted and tired he feels.]
Is this where you have been staying this entire time? [This train...]
no subject
[ Have a better life, and whatnot. He feels like a lot has been lifted knowing the people from his world will be better off, really.
But he nods. ]
I've been with Ms. Sara a lot. There wasn't much to do here..... It's nice but I just want to leave.
[ Enough trains, man. He's still kind of nervous about returning with Sara because it's a new, scary world but... Hey! Better than his home, and Whole Ass. ]
no subject
With Sara?
[He wasn't expecting that, but...it makes him smile, lips curving upwards.]
I knew that she assisted you in writing your letter, but... I am grateful that she was there for you throughout this time.
no subject
She's really nice... Like what I think a mom should be?
[ Let's ignore the fact that she killed Russell, though. It's fine. He had worse. But look at that, a smile! That's better, Barnham. ]
She said I could go home with her too..... Which makes me nervous, but ... It's better.
no subject
Indeed? You shall be returning with her?
[... He smiles quietly.]
Good. She shall be able to assist you in living another life. You... as promised, you found something to live for.
no subject
But yeah, he did find something to live for! Guess that's improvement from uhh... His entire life, huh. ]
I'll become stronger, so you don't have to worry anymore.
[ He did learn quite a lot from being here for 7 weeks anyway. Though, he still has a lot to learn... Like, emotions in general. ]
But you should promise that you'll stop being so sad, and keep true to what you told me, so I don't... Worry about you...... I'll miss you, Mr. Barnham, you were one of the first people that were kind to me.
[ He just slumps his shoulders, because Russell really is thankful for that. He's going to miss him so much? ]
no subject
[Look how much Russell has grown, damn!! Talking about his feelings and realizing what he wants and even asking things of someone else... he's impressed! Barnham blinks for a moment, staring at Russell and realizing--realizing that he's grown, that he's changed, and Barnham has only gone backwards, and all this time the people here were fighting too in their own ways...
And he slowly breathes out a sigh, nodding.]
... Very well then. I do not believe you have ever asked much of me--so I shall do my very best. I promise...that I shall keep true to what I told you.
Please...do not worry for me. More than anything, I look forward to your new life like this.
no subject
This makes Russell pretty happy. Seeing Barnham so down was just saddening? He knows he should probably smile or something in this kind of situation but uhhh... Emoting... Yeah, that's still hard. So he won't. He'll practice smiling later, maybe.
.... One more hug though. Russell will cling to him once again and wrap his arms around Barnham just one last time!!! Gotta make this count. ]
I'll really miss you......
[ Except I saw that Barnham is also going to go to Erebonia so fuck you. ]
no subject
We are not yet at the point of farewells, Young Russell. We still have some time on this train.
[Shhh, shh... don't cry or get upset yet.]
Let us take the time that has been given to us...and embrace it for what it is.
no subject
Yeah but...... I'm going to leave before you...
[ Russell has to get everything out of the way before he hops off the train with Sara? Gosh.
But he looks a little confused. ]
Uhm... And how do we do that?
no subject
But you are not leaving yet.
[That's good enough for him.]
So let us talk instead--you seem to have learned a great deal for yourself in the time we have been apart.
no subject
Yeah, I did... I think.
[ He mulls it all over for a moment. A lot has seriously happened while he was here... It's almost too much to think about! ]
..... Not wanting to die, means I have more self-value... Ms. Sara said? And I know murder is bad.... So I won't do that anymore, and try to help people instead-- if I'm capable of it. Going to a new place means I can at least start off the right way.
[ It sounds nice for sure, but he's still a bit uneasy about it. He looks down. ] I dunno..... I still don't really know how to feel in a lot of situations, I'm still really confused.
no subject
Not wanting to die is a good thing indeed--he's proud of Sara for helping Russell accomplish this much. Quietly, he nods.]
You shall have the time to figure such things out. And... with Sara assisting you, I believe you shall come to your own conclusions as to your emotions.
But that you can feel this much...means that you can certainly feel all of the emotions you have never identified.
[He smiles slightly, nodding.]
I am proud of how far you have come.
no subject
[ He was mega stressed in the town of Whole Ass, but finally being dead allowed him to mellow out! Or at least, sit around and think about things.
Emotions are still super scary though. He's really hoping he can just do something right for once... Not actually murder a guy because he doesn't know what to feel, you know.
Well, maybe with Sara, it'll be better. ]
I guess I should try to practice my smile more.....?
no subject
It was shitty.]
... I would enjoy it if you would do so, yes.
[Please practice your smiles!!]
no subject
But smiling... Hmmmmmmm... Hmmmmmmmmmm... ]
...... Maybe later.
[ Mostly he feels self conscious? Embarrassed? One of those two. MAYBE WHEN NO ONE IS LOOKING! ]
no subject
What's this? Are you embarrassed, Young Russell?
no subject
Whatever! Just looking away. Huff. ]
Uhm.... No?
I said later... When no one is, you know... Watching.
[ Totally embarrassed. What if he looks funny!! ]
