INVESTIGATION

The town is quiet, eerily so. All animals, all chatter, all gusts of wind have come to a complete stop this morning. A tumbleweed passes by through the center of town and the rocking chair on the Sheriff's porch sways but remains silent. Everything is muted and as the door of the hotel opens, the only sensation that rings utterly true today is this: One of your own is gone. And now, as the rules state, it is your job to discover their fate. Welcome to the investigation post! If your character decides to search an area, please post the name of the location in your header and wait for mod replies. Anything to discover will be indicated during the course of the thread. After the body is discovered, an announcement will be made and characters are free to spend the rest of the afternoons how they like. [ Immediately, Chane's stepping out and trying to guide Xion away from the grave. Get back, small and innocent youth!

Seriously, don't look. ]

[ For whatever reason, the smell doesn't seem to bother her. But she's shaking all over again, trembling so hard she seems at risk of falling over. ]

Who is that! Who is that!

[tightly]

[ Gingerly, Chane rests one hand on Xion's shoulder in an attempt to keep her steady. The touch is light and impersonal, and it's clear she wasn't prepared to take this kind of role.

I don't know -- the words form in her throat, her mind, but don't make it any farther than that. ]

[ceded]

[ Xion finally stops when Chane puts a hand on her.

Apparently this is just her cue to dissolve into tears again, burying her face in her hands. ]

[tightly]

If Chane hadn't known what to do before, well. Now she's doubly out of her element! Her hand gives the slightest of flinches, fingers still lingering at Xion's shoulder even as the heel of her hand lifts, as if she can't decide whether to stay or move.

Eventually (and we're talking literal minutes here), her hand settles back down, followed by the other one on the opposite shoulder. Xion is allowed to cry for as long as she needs to.

Chane's back remains a careful ward, shoulders set in a strict arc, keeping anyone else away.

No one needs to intrude on Xion until she's cried herself dry. ... At least, that's what Chane herself would prefer, had the situation been reversed. ]

[ It doesn't take her long. Xion's never really cried in her life before now, though before now, she hasn't gone through quite this much blatant despair. A few minutes and her tears slow down, thanks to Chane's steadying hands on her shoulders. Quietly she wipes her face, sniffing just once. ]

... thanks.

[tightly]

[ Slowly, Chane nods, letting her hands drop once she's sure Xion is reasonably steadied. Reaching into her pocket, it's notepad time again! Writing, holding it up, you know the drill. ]

Would you like me to walk you back to the hotel?

[ceded]

[ Xion shakes her head rapidly. ]

... thank you, but no. [ She wipes her face again, pale but determined. ]

I should stay. We need to figure out what happened here.

[tightly]

[ That's commendable of Xion. Nodding, Chane backs off a bit and gives the girl space to do exactly that. ]
