The town is quiet, eerily so. All animals, all chatter, all gusts of wind have come to a complete stop this morning. A tumbleweed passes by through the center of town and the rocking chair on the Sheriff's porch sways but remains silent. Everything is muted and as the door of the hotel opens, the only sensation that rings utterly true today is this:
One of your own is gone.
And now, as the rules state, it is your job to discover their fate.
Welcome to the investigation post! If your character decides to search an area, please post the name of the location in your header and wait for mod replies. Anything to discover will be indicated during the course of the thread.
After the body is discovered, an announcement will be made and characters are free to spend the rest of the afternoons how they like. If there are any questions, please shoot a message either to this journal or at robowest.
Something's amiss, and rather than walk blind and see if he can find anything, Riku's making a beeline for the graveyard, and the forty graves it holds.
There probably won't be anything there. He knows, and he hopes that.
But if there is, it will be something to keep in mind in the coming weeks.]
[Riku comes up short, looking at the two graves that have been visibly disturbed, then looking at the headstones. Whose graves have been filled?]
Looks like it's started.
[He crosses to the broken shovel, crouching down to examine it. Is there any blood on it? Anything that might indicate that it was used for anything more than just shoveling dirt into graves?
He wasn't expecting anything to happen this quickly, in spite of what the Sheriff said. Riku glances to the man that seems to be sauntering through the graveyard. He can recognize him from his wanted poster--wanted for human sacrifice, if he recalls right...]
Do you know anything about this? Or are you just lucky to turn up here too?
Jason Todd... that's the kid that thought of the name for the town, wasn't it?
[He frowns.
Unfortunately, he's not entirely sure they can trust the graves to hold the person they claim to...
They'll have to check.
But let's stay with that shovel for a moment; there might be a couple more clues on it. Riku positions his hands above the handprints, trying to figure out if the person that held the shovel was using it left-handedly or right-handedly.
And then he looks to Felix.]
We'll probably have to check and see if it's actually them in the graves, or if it's someone else.
[Grave robbing. That's a low he hadn't yet sank to until now.]
[After all, that's what brought him into the graveyard, a sense that something was off.
Riku sighs, standing.]
Should we let the others know what we've found? Or check these graves ourselves first?
I didn't talk with either of them, but I think I'd recognize them. I saw the pictures on their wanted posters, and Jason was the one that suggested Whole Ass for the town's name. Rin... I think she was the one that said she'd been wounded when she was brought here.
Wounded. [ Like a certain Jason Todd, but that's something they can discuss later. ]
Normally I wouldn't suggest this, but we should have a look what's inside. Of course, we will also bury them properly once we're done. [ If there are any bodies in there. ]
However, the thing we're really looking for was headed towards the railway station, but I trust they have a handle on things over there.
[ He knows that Chane is there, so that's all good. In the meantime, watch him dig really fast with a broken shovel! ]
[ Okay, since Claire is digging in Jason Todd's grave, it actually won't take long for him to find something.
About three feet into the grave, he'll hit something soft. A small cat ear pokes out of the dirt. If he keeps digging up the dirt, it won't take long to uncover a body.
The body is short and pale and absolutely covered in blood, very obviously coming from the huge gash in her throat. A piece of glass from a root beer bottle is still embedded in the flesh, actually.

There is also a broken shovel lying in the dirt.
And a trail of blood heading in the direction of the railroad station, behind the buildings. ]

Disturbing the dead? I can't say I enjoy these twisted things.
[ We'll address the blood in a minute. ]

The shovel has two bloody handprints on it, as if whoever was holding it was covered in blood. ]

In an eerie atmosphere like this, it always makes sense to check the graveyard first. If I'm correct about something, it's not because of luck.
[ Having said that, he has no god damn clue what happened here. How exactly big is the handprint? Adult man/woman size or smaller? ]

This is all to say that -- Ao Nanami is dead. ]

[Riku doesn't take long to look at the body before turning to Felix.]
Pass me that shovel. I'm betting we'll find the other girl from the jail in this other grave.
[And if he's given the shovel, he's digging into Rin'a grave to see who--or what--they'll find.]

And it's going to be a coffin -- a coffin that already seems to have been pried open. Even if it's currently closed. ]

[ The shovel was passed as Claire looks on towards the railway station. ]
It sounds like you struck something.
