It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.
... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!
Except there is, perhaps, a few things amiss.

[Good, you have the situation under control, Simon]
Horses, for example, are more common in farms and in the military, and since my family is -- um, not the type to visit such places, it's not often I had the chance to see any.
All the creatures I knew back at home weren't exactly normal.
['Creatures' being the operative word. Tarvek's father had a lot of biological constructs in the depths of the town's tunnels and sewers]

[Well it didn't sprout piranha teeth and start maul Simon. It should be safe to touch. Tarvek extends his hand and pats the horse's shirt]
It's so strange to see a completely normal animal.

Shouldn't it be normal to see a normal animal?

[Saying that is easier than explaining the truth, at least]
Why do you like animals so much, anyway?

Animals are honest about what they want and repay kindness with kindness. They're not like people at all.
