[ WEEK ONE – ARRIVAL ]

ARRIVAL

It's a surprisingly quiet ride. The passenger cart is nothing more than wood and a bit of cotton to cushion the seats but for some reason, even as the train hurtles along down the track, the cart remains silent. It only starts filling with noise when the passengers begin to stir.

There isn't any indication on how you got here. No grogginess, no injuries -- in fact, those who arrive with injuries might find them healed up completely (of course there are others who won't be so lucky) -- but in one blink and the next, you are here, on this train. Maybe you're even sitting next to a friend. Maybe a stranger.

Won't be any time to talk either, the train suddenly slowing down with enough of a jerk to throw its passengers back into their seats. A few seconds later, it comes to a complete stop and with a whistle, the doors open and a voice calls from outside. It's male, with a slight mechanical twang behind it and anyone who looks out the window towards the station can just about spot the portly man out on the platform.

"You might as well come on out, folks. You won't be getting any answers on the train."

Once everyone is out on the platform, the man stands before them taking an assessing look at each person. There is something very off about him, though he looks human enough -- but his eyes are too white, his skin too dry, and his hair is doesn't shine quite right. He is dressed in a flannel shirt, suspenders, and jeans, a cowboy hat atop his head and a badge pinned to his shirt that reads "Sheriff". After a moment, he gives a gruff nod and speaks again.

"Howdy. Real happy to see all of you. Explanations will come... Sunday morning, yeah. Give y'all a bit of time to meet each other. Settle in. Keys are on the table over there, hat and pistol in your room. Don't, er... Don't shoot each other right away but if you do, my office is over there. Go get some dinner, sun's about to set. Wouldn't want any coyote trouble."

And that seems to be... it. The Sheriff tips his hat and turns to head to the building with the large "Sheriff" sign on the front. There is a table nearby, keys neatly laid out for everyone with nametags attached to each one. An owl hoots in the distance and a breeze passes through the group. It's quiet again.

Welcome to game start! Characters will find their items in their hotel rooms and anyone who goes to visit the Sheriff after he leaves will find the station empty. On top of that, rulebooks will not be available to find until later. The Sheriff might be forcing it a little but it seems like the intent here really is to get everyone to interact with each other. If there are any questions, PM or hit up the plurk at [plurk.com profile] robowest!

hydrokinetics: (Just remember what you're here for)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-01-14 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't recognize her. [Which also isn't a lie. Mrs. O'Leary is usually the size of a hummer or a tank, depending on what book you're reading on the day. The dog continues burying her face into the leg of Percy's jean, tail whipping at a fast pace even as Percy contemplates what Harry says and raises an eyebrow right back.]

That doesn't make sense, she was supposed to be with somebody else. [Apparently that's the biggest issue, not...that...someone would need to let her in? As far as Percy knows Mrs. O'Leary travels wherever she pleases and it makes some sense that she would find Percy. But he doesn't even know where they are. But there are more pressing issues here, such as:] And why're you holding a stick? She likes chewtoys better.

[ Harry lifts his brow even further, in a decidedly you-just-got-off-a-mysterious-train-you-didn't-get-on-in-a-town-that's-abandoned-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-and-you're-surprised-because-the-dog-was-supposed-to-be-with-someone-else kind of way. But then Percy asks about his wand, and his gaze drops to the dormant instrument in his hand. Right. ]

It's not a stick. [ He stops before saying more. Wherever they were, the International Statute of Secrecy probably still applied, and doesn't have any reason to believe the other boy is a wizard. ] It's...just a keepsake from home.

[ Which isn't untrue, after all. ]
hydrokinetics: (Here comes the fighter)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-01-14 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, so it's a special stick. [Man don't judge him, it's not like this is the weirdest thing to happen to him. One of the weirdest, yes, but not the weirdest. Luckily for Harry while Percy is aware of magic he doesn't automatically think of "wand." As far as he knows everybody else here is pretty normal.]

Was it something you had with you before we got here?
expelliarmed: (13)

[personal profile] expelliarmed 2017-01-14 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ Harry shoves his wand in his back pocket, like that will somehow make it less peculiar. At least Percy hasn't asked why it's a keepsake. ]

Yeah. I didn't have it with me when I woke up on the train, but I found it in this room when I got here.

[ Like someone had taken it but decided to give it back. ]
hydrokinetics: (Just remember what you're here for)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-01-14 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
Mrs. O'Leary and I were in different countries. [May as well get that out of the way.] None of us had anything on us when we got here, so what did the Sheriff do? [Why is this happening...] You didn't find anything else in here, right? Like...a pen?

[Subtle, Percy.]
expelliarmed: (22)

[personal profile] expelliarmed 2017-01-14 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ Harry frowns. It'd be far from the first time he'd been knocked out and had something taken from him, but that was just it - he didn't remember being knocked out. He didn't even really remember waking up on the train. It was like he was just - there. ]

A...pen. [ He can't talk, being the guy with the stick keepsake. ] No, I didn't.
hydrokinetics: (it could leave come the morning)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-01-14 08:28 am (UTC)(link)
[That's not good. His hand carefully pats the pocket of his jeans and if Harry's watching closely enough it's too easy to see that Percy's really not thrilled by his lack of a pen. But whatever.]

Guess it's just you, me and Mrs. O'Leary. [There's a "woof" of affirmation from the floor. His mind wanders back to Annabeth, wondering what room she's in and if she's stuck with a complete stranger. It makes him nervous to be separated, but it's something to deal with at a later time and not let on to a complete stranger. Though, speaking of, Percy takes that moment to hold out a hand.]

Percy Jackson.

[personal profile] expelliarmed 2017-01-14 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ Three's a crowd, but Harry could have ended up worse roommates - if he really had to stick around here for a few days, and the more people he talked to, the more that seems to be the case. Besides, Mrs. O'Leary reminds him of Fang a bit, and that's a welcome thing.

He only hesitates a moment before taking Percy's hand to shake it. ]
Harry Potter. [ He'll watch Percy closely for any sign of recognition of his name. ]
hydrokinetics: (When I am ten feet tall)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-01-14 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
[If he recognizes the name, Percy doesn't show it. If he knew Harry had to deal with that struggle, too, he'd sympathize. As it stands though he has no idea who Harry is and instead he gives a friendly grin while shaking his hand firmly.]

Good to meet you. [Mrs. O'Leary trots up to Harry and sits at his feet, waiting for further acknowledgement while Percy gives their room another look.] Is it me or the hotel feel a little out of place with everything else?

[Then again that could just be because he doesn't want to stay here.]
expelliarmed: (13)

[personal profile] expelliarmed 2017-01-14 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
[ The lack of recognition is honestly a welcome change. It's sort of nice to not feel notorious for once. ]

Not just you. It's like someone got this place ready for us, but the rest of the town is just...deserted. [ He'd have to explore more tomorrow after the sun was out, considering he couldn't rely on his wand to light the darkness for him. ]
hydrokinetics: (life threw the towel in on)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-01-14 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
It's creepy. [May as well say it.] The Sheriff disappeared, the keys had our names on it and some of our stuff was here. I'm not exactly worried so much about how they did it, but I want to know why. Any ideas?
expelliarmed: (31)

[personal profile] expelliarmed 2017-01-14 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
[ It's absolutely creepy. GOOD THING THEY HAVEN'T FOUND THE GRAVEYARD YET.

Harry could think of more than a few reasons why someone would be after him, personally, but he doubts anyone who did would use a method as bizarre as this. No one he'd met seemed to be a witch or wizard, either. This was something else entirely. ]

Did you see those posters at the station? They were wanted posters. The people in them were on the train.
hydrokinetics: (to see me fail)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-01-14 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Likewise, Percy "everyone who wants to kill me, please take a number" Jackson has plenty of ideas why someone would want him but this many other people shouldn't be involved. He finally moves to sit on one of the bed, allowing Mrs. O'Leary to jump up with him even as he listens to Harry.]

I didn't, I was studying the map instead. Which people though? [...wait.] Unless you mean all of the people on the train.
expelliarmed: (20)

[personal profile] expelliarmed 2017-01-14 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
No, only three of them. [ He'd be hard-pressed to recall exactly what their names were, but he'd be able to pick their faces out a crowd. The only one he can remember with clarity is a tough-looking blonde girl about their age... ] But if there really are wanted criminals among us, they may be the ones responsible for bringing us here.

[ And the sheriff is...in on it? It still doesn't add up, but he's trying. ]
hydrokinetics: (nothing town)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-01-14 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Please don't tell him about the blonde girl, Harry...]

You think we have people hiding in our numbers that're tricking us? [I mean. Logical. Percy has some experience with that, too, thank you Luke.] If that's true then what can we do to find them?

[...and yet, to play devil's advocate...] But sometimes wanted posters aren't right either.
expelliarmed: (30)

[personal profile] expelliarmed 2017-01-14 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Harry's quick to nod in agreement with that, thinking of the ones he'd seen of his godfather plastered all over Diagon Alley before ever seeing Sirius in person. He couldn't be too quick to judge based off those posters alone. ]

No, you're right. If there's anyone we should start suspecting first, it's that sheriff. [ What could he be withholding to tell them on Sunday? ]
hydrokinetics: (Gonna live life 'til we're dead)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-01-14 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[His eyes light up, a sure sign that he absolutely agrees.]

Looks like you and me are on the same page. [Annnd he'll fall flat on his back to stare at the ceiling. Mrs. O'Leary rests her head on his stomach.] What if the sheriff's working for someone else?
expelliarmed: (70)

[personal profile] expelliarmed 2017-01-15 08:03 am (UTC)(link)
[ He starts to pace, but breathes a little easier seeing Percy's earnest interest. If nothing else, at least he seems like he wants answers just as much as Harry does. ]

He doesn't seem the type to orchestrate a mass abduction, does he? But then, who? It doesn't seem like we could all have a common enemy. [ Learning Percy's not a wizard was about enough for him to figure that. ]
hydrokinetics: (But I do it for the kids)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-01-15 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Percy Jackson definitely wants answers. But he also wants to take a break so Harry can do the pacing for both of them.]

Definitely not. He's way too casual about it. Usually when people pull stunts like this it's like "we're going to tell you all about how you're going to fail and regret everything you're doing because you can't stop us from this bad thing." [...] Or at least it's like that in the movies. [Let's not talk about personal experience.]

We might not all have a common enemy but we might all have something else in common we're not seeing. It's not about being from the same place, so we can rule that out. [Harry sounds too British to not be British, honestly.] How old are you?
expelliarmed: (09)

[personal profile] expelliarmed 2017-01-15 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
[ No, that's been Harry's personal experience, too, even if he doesn't say so outright. Enemies often did delight in expanding upon their schemes at the moment they think they've won. And getting them all here was probably victory enough to make the sheriff gloat at least a little bit if he were behind it. ]

Sixteen, but I don't think it's an age thing. There were people of all ages on the train. [ His brow knits. ] Everyone seemed human, at least.

[ ...It doesn't occur to him until after he's said it that that might sound strange, but it's true! ]

hydrokinetics: (Hailing from rock bottom)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-01-15 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
[...it's kind of unfortunate that for once Percy's ADHD isn't kicking in and he actually caught on to what Harry just said. When he speaks his tone remains mostly casual, even if he's turning his head just slightly to get a better look at his new roommate.]

Were you expecting something else? [Likewise, it doesn't occur to Percy that he should try to sound a little more incredulous or surprised instead of on-guard.]
expelliarmed: (14)

[personal profile] expelliarmed 2017-01-15 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ...He probably could have phrased that better, couldn't he have. ]

I would expect just about anything at this point. [ How's that for a complete cop-out of the answer? Harry stops pacing, facing the wall so Percy can't read into his expression. ]
hydrokinetics: (C’mon c’mon)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-01-15 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[There's a pause.]

So what, you think maybe we have a monster or something hiding in our group?

[It's fine, he's not looking at Harry either for that reason. This is a very tricky conversation.]
expelliarmed: (02)

[personal profile] expelliarmed 2017-01-16 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
I think we can't rule something like that out, that's all.

[ It's very tricky indeed. ]
hydrokinetics: (For I)

[personal profile] hydrokinetics 2017-01-16 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
Then how do you suggest we track down a monster if there is one? [Something's..up. He doesn't quite know what yet, but he's interested in Harry's thoughts and now he's starting to wonder if he's really letting his guard down too much.]
