[ WEEK ONE – ARRIVAL ]

ARRIVAL

It's a surprisingly quiet ride. The passenger cart is nothing more than wood and a bit of cotton to cushion the seats but for some reason, even as the train hurtles along down the track, the cart remains silent. It only starts filling with noise when the passengers begin to stir. There isn't any indication on how you got here. No grogginess, no injuries -- in fact, those who arrive with injuries might find them healed up completely (of course there are others who won't be so lucky) -- but in one blink and the next, you are here, on this train. Maybe you're even sitting next to a friend. Maybe a stranger. Won't be any time to talk either, the train suddenly slowing down with enough of a jerk to throw its passengers back into their seats. A few seconds later, it comes to a complete stop and with a whistle, the doors open and a voice calls from outside. It's male, with a slight mechanical twang behind it and anyone who looks out the window towards the station can just about spot the portly man out on the platform. "You might as well come on out, folks. You won't be getting any answers on the train." Once everyone is out on the platform, the man stands before them taking an assessing look at each person. There is something very off about him, though he looks human enough -- but his eyes are too white, his skin too dry, and his hair is doesn't shine quite right. He is dressed in a flannel shirt, suspenders, and jeans, a cowboy hat atop his head and a badge pinned to his shirt that reads "Sheriff". After a moment, he gives a gruff nod and speaks again. "Howdy. Real happy to see all of you. Explanations will come... Sunday morning, yeah. Give y'all a bit of time to meet each other. Settle in. Keys are on the table over there, hat and pistol in your room. Don't, er... Don't shoot each other right away but if you do, my office is over there. Go get some dinner, sun's about to set. Wouldn't want any coyote trouble." And that seems to be... it. The Sheriff tips his hat and turns to head to the building with the large "Sheriff" sign on the front. There is a table nearby, keys neatly laid out for everyone with nametags attached to each one. An owl hoots in the distance and a breeze passes through the group. It's quiet again. Welcome to game start! Characters will find their items in their hotel rooms and anyone who goes to visit the Sheriff after he leaves will find the station empty. On top of that, rulebooks will not be available to find until later. The Sheriff might be forcing it a little but it seems like the intent here really is to get everyone to interact with each other. He scrutinizes Papika for a moment or so, then turns back to the door to open it. Just a crack first. A round yellow eye peeks between the door and the frame, and then a small white-socked paw stretches out of the opening at their feet.

Yes, he'd know those eyes and that paw anywhere.] Pennyworth... [Damian nudges the door open more, and the tuxedo cat greets them with a resounding mewl.]

[ papika kind of just stares at the cat, looking oddly (or not oddly?? who wouldn't stare at a kitten tbh) at the thing, before snapping out of it. ]

Is he yours?

[ she tries to peek into the room in case there's like other?? small creatures inside?? ]

Yes. [But why... is Pennyworth inside of the room? Why is Pennyworth even here at all? Damian slowly pushes the door open further, letting the room be revealed to them before they step inside.

The tip of Pennyworth's tail flicks, and then he gets up to march out and twine through their feet. Damian bends to lift the cat up in his arms.] What are you doing here, stupid cat?

[ papika rushes over to what appears to be a... surfboard? leaning against a wall. she picks it up, turning it over in her hands, before looking back at damian. ]

Is the cat still a trap?

[bittybat]

[With a grievous sigh, Damian opens his arms and lets a wiggling Pennyworth down onto the floor.] No. [He sounds exasperated.] Is the surfboard yours?

[flippity]

It's not a surfboard.

[ she says, then proceeds to not explain what it is then. ]

I want to pet... um, Pennyworm? Pennywoe?

[bittybat]

[oh my god] Pennyworth. [Wait--does this mean they're...] He probably won't like you. He doesn't like anyone except-- [But Pennyworth is already twirling between Papika's ankles, flag tail flying high and proud.

Someone please end Damian's suffering.] Forget it.

Is that thing even yours? Where's your key?

[ she sits down on the ground to properly play with pennyworth, cooing at him before turning her attention back to the tortured robin. ]

Of course it's mine! I said it is, didn't I?

[ she did no such thing ]

[Don't play with Pennyworth as if you're not the most frustrating girl in the universe!!!] You didn't.

If this isn't your room, get out, and put that back where you found it. I don't care if you're a girl. I'll make you put it back. [Big words from a small boy whose white-pawed cat is rubbing against Papika's side and back as he makes a circle around her.] Pennyworth! Stop that!

If it's not a surfboard, what is it?

[flippity]

It's... [ a pause, as she tries to remember the term for it. ]

Well, it's mine and it flies, and this is my room! So there!

[ papika sticks her tongue out at him and then immediately goes back to playing with the cat, who is the much preferable person in this room?? damian is rude ]

[The hell... Damian's eyes narrow suspiciously, but it's a bit hard to tell with the domino mask covering them. DON'T STICK YOUR TONGUE OUT AT HIM, WHAT THE HECK!!] Nothing you say sounds trustworthy in the slightest. You don't even know what that thing is called.

Prove it can be used to fly.

[ she holds the board out, at waist level, and then immediately hops onto it ]

[ and then immediately busts her ass as it falls to the floor because guess what got nerfed!!! ]

[Oh my GOD. Damian legitimately jerks in surprise--he's not sure whether to continue to be cold and distance, or be concerned because... though annoying, she is a girl. Pennyworth explodes in bristled fur and goes from point A beside Papika to point B on the other side of the door and out of the room.] Pennyworth! Dammit!

[He turns back to Papika, conceding the cat will be all right. Hopefully.] You said it could fly! [He at least offers her a hand up??]

It can!

[ she looks completely baffled here? it takes her a moment to notice the offered hand, and she accepts the assistance. ]

Oh no, if I broke it then I'm going to be in trouble again...

[Damian cast a rather uninterested glance at the surfboard-looking thing that won't fly. Well.]

We'll pretend your claims that this thing can fly are factual. It's a hoverboard? You ride it while it hovers?

But it isn't working here. Was it working when you last had it?

[flippity]

It was! [ she picks it up and shakes it lightly as if that'll suddenly make the thing work. ]

This stinks. I was going to leave with this.

[ as in, she had planned to just ollie out and fly outta here ]

If we were brought here with no memory of why or how, then I doubt we are just going to be able to use a simple hoverboard to fly out. The only way back is probably with the train we came in on.

[ she walks over to pick up the hat that the sheriff said that would be in their room. ]

The gun's here too.

[Oh my GOD!! PAPIKA, NO.] Don't touch it. [His voice is sharp. He moves in quickly to peer at the weapon.

Great, people with guns. That's just what they all needed.] Leave the gun alone.

[ she just pouts, but she does listen to him. ]

I wasn't going to use it! I'm not dumb.

They're dangerous in inexperienced hands. If you don't know how to use a gun, don't touch it. [Wtf, Sheriff??? They don't need fucking guns!!]

Guns are for cowards who don't know how to fight or control a situation.

Um, he told us not to "shoot each other right away." What did that mean?

[ besides the obvious that he expects them to goddamn shoot each other for some reason. ]

It means don't touch any of the guns. [omg little girl dont bring up questionable stuff!!!] If you see anyone else with a gun, leave them alone and don't talk to them.
