[ WEEK ONE – ARRIVAL ]

ARRIVAL

It's a surprisingly quiet ride. The passenger cart is nothing more than wood and a bit of cotton to cushion the seats but for some reason, even as the train hurtles along down the track, the cart remains silent. It only starts filling with noise when the passengers begin to stir. There isn't any indication on how you got here. No grogginess, no injuries -- in fact, those who arrive with injuries might find them healed up completely (of course there are others who won't be so lucky) -- but in one blink and the next, you are here, on this train. Maybe you're even sitting next to a friend. Maybe a stranger. Won't be any time to talk either, the train suddenly slowing down with enough of a jerk to throw its passengers back into their seats. A few seconds later, it comes to a complete stop and with a whistle, the doors open and a voice calls from outside. It's male, with a slight mechanical twang behind it and anyone who looks out the window towards the station can just about spot the portly man out on the platform. "You might as well come on out, folks. You won't be getting any answers on the train." Once everyone is out on the platform, the man stands before them taking an assessing look at each person. There is something very off about him, though he looks human enough -- but his eyes are too white, his skin too dry, and his hair is doesn't shine quite right. He is dressed in a flannel shirt, suspenders, and jeans, a cowboy hat atop his head and a badge pinned to his shirt that reads "Sheriff". After a moment, he gives a gruff nod and speaks again. "Howdy. Real happy to see all of you. Explanations will come... Sunday morning, yeah. Give y'all a bit of time to meet each other. Settle in. Keys are on the table over there, hat and pistol in your room. Don't, er... Don't shoot each other right away but if you do, my office is over there. Go get some dinner, sun's about to set. Wouldn't want any coyote trouble." And that seems to be... it. The Sheriff tips his hat and turns to head to the building with the large "Sheriff" sign on the front. There is a table nearby, keys neatly laid out for everyone with nametags attached to each one. An owl hoots in the distance and a breeze passes through the group. It's quiet again. Welcome to game start! Characters will find their items in their hotel rooms and anyone who goes to visit the Sheriff after he leaves will find the station empty. On top of that, rulebooks will not be available to find until later. The Sheriff might be forcing it a little but it seems like the intent here really is to get everyone to interact with each other. [ annabeth is more than a little worse for the wear simply because she came from a less than stellar situation previously. even with wound helaing she has some cuts and bruises, and her shirt and jeans have seen better days. she sleeps through most of the train ride and spends the little speech fiddling with the necklace of clay beads she's wearing, before immediately having a mini conference with percy jackson.

after that, she splits off to do her own thing, which is mostly: ]

[ most people think of annabeth as being intense or scary upon meeting her. this is for good reason, because her gray eyes are narrowed and focused and there's a serious little frown on her face as she bears down on you. ]

What's the last thing you remember before the train?

[ she does not have time for pleasantries? ]

saturday morning

[ having apparently hit the tailor's, annabeth will at this point be wearing men's trousers and a button-up shirt. she's still got her necklace, and she's twisted her hair back out of her way, but otherwise doesn't seem to have made any real effort to Blend. it's just nice to have clothes which are clean and not ruined.

for the most part, she can be found investigating every location she can get to and scrutinizing the wanted posters that are hung up with a frown. she's not obviously armed, but that probably doesn't mean a whole lot. ]

This makes no sense. [ ... ] I have no idea why I expect anything to make sense. Ugh.

[ lissa agrees that annabeth is Intense. she backs up a hop or two. ]

H-huh? What do I last re-- what's a train? Is that what that thing is?

[ pointing towards the train. this is clearly the more important thing to focus on. ]

[ sweet athena. it doesn't seem anything less than a genuine question, and yet... ]

Yes. You've never seen one before?

[Thankfully, Shinnosuke has no interest in pleasantries either, so he's happy (?) to answer.]

I was just being a rather ordinary high school student?

[That might've been more believable if he weren't looking a little too smiley for the situation, though he does at least have a school uniform on??]

[ THAT SEEMS LIKE A SUSPICIOUS ANSWER, AND GETS HIM A ONCE-OVER. ]

An ordinary high school student doing what, specifically?

[INNOCENT SMILE!! At least he doesn't look particularly off, aside from being very tired.]

[Because it's not a pleasant thing. He's not going to tell all the details, but what she may hear may not be of use either, at least for what Tarvek is supposing she's asking for]

[ oh that sounds like a helpful promising answer? ]

As specific as you can be. The more information I have, the better.

I have no idea how I'm alive and healthy right now.

[Sei, on the other hand, is making no attempt to blend in at all - she's still wearing her Ye Olde Men's Clothing, because western clothes are weird, thanks. Her clothes are dusty, but at least they're familiar.

Like Annabeth, though, she's also making an effort to investigate and explore, and she looks up when she hears her speak before heaving a sigh.]

It can't be helped. Everything is supposed to make a certain amount of sense, so it's hard to get used to it when nothing does.

That's the thing: I'm used to things not making sense, and yet I always try to figure them out anyway...

[ she should maybe Stop That. ]

[Oh. Whoops. What a blunder! Sei blushes, embarrassed, and bows quickly.]

I'm terribly sorry, I should have introduced myself sooner! My name is Seizaburo Kamiya. It's nice to meet you, Miss Chase, even if the circumstances could be better.

[LYING THROUGH HIS TEETH. He doesn't even care how blatant it is, considering all the blood on his costume, but... Well. He's not exactly eager to talk about how heated things got. Ha ha ha.

He gestures at her own appearance, though.]

What about you? You look like you had one hell of a sleepover before you ended up here.

[ she looks jason up and down and then deadpans: ]

I was on a date.

[ IN HELL ]

[ Whenever Annabeth grabs her key and finds her room, she'll find Nisha already inside examining the pistols that were left for them there—not just looking, but unloading both and examining the mechanisms before reloading.

She glances up amiably enough and sets them aside when she comes in though. ]

Oh, hey, kid. You're in here too, huh?

[ not rooming with percy is kind of a pain in the neck. she's spent the last however long in hell with her boyfriend and not having him nearby in a strange situation? uncool. she only JUST got him back from his damn disappearance, too. it feels like if she lets him out of her sight for even a night, he might vanish again. still, there's no point in rocking the boat...

yet.

she nods once before her eyes lock on her own bed - that dagger...! immediately annabeth crosses over and picks it up, entirely ignoring the hat and pistols. ]

Apparently. Annabeth Chase.

Nisha Kadam. That knife yours? I wondered. I've got my pistol—

[ She does; other than the two issued ones, she has one of a very different make on her hip, with an attached bayonet blade. She snaps one of the others closed and offers it to Annabeth, grip first. ]

—and it looks like they're giving these to everyone.

[athenite]

Yeah. My friend gave it to me years ago.

[ it's absolutely hers and she won't be giving it up to anyone or letting it out of her sight; it's kind of a sentimental value weapon.

after a second, she accepts the offered pistol. not really her thing, but... ]

Well, that's on-theme, if not more than a little worrying. I doubt everyone knows how to use pistols.

[ He honestly doesn't think once about the missing pleasantries, but the question still has him guarded. Why does she want to know? ]

I was on another train. [ Actually...he'd kind of assumed... ] Weren't you?

[athenite]

No. I was [ ... ] in an elevator.

[ that seems like a safe enough answer. it's...semi-true. ]

What kind of train were you on?

A...steam-engine train. [ YEP. ] Not too different from this one.

[athenite]

But it wasn't this specific train. Where was it out of?
