The town is quiet, eerily so. All animals, all chatter, all gusts of wind have come to a complete stop this morning. A tumbleweed passes by through the center of town and the rocking chair on the Sheriff's porch sways but remains silent. Everything is muted and as the door of the hotel opens, the only sensation that rings utterly true today is this:
One of your own is gone.
And now, as the rules state, it is your job to discover their fate.
Welcome to the investigation post! If your character decides to search an area, please post the name of the location in your header and wait for the mod replies. Anything to discover or not to will be indicated during the course of the thread.
After the body is discovered, an announcement will be made and characters are free to spend the rest of the afternoons how they like. If there are any questions, please shoot a message either to this journal or at robowest.
[ While he checks her pulse, Chane is a working quickly, although it would be a stretch to call her animated. This is a personal situation they've found themselves in - well, personal for Chane, who's endured the criticism of this week, and it spurs her to act quickly. Ripping a length of fabric off of her blouse, she does her best to staunch the bleeding of Sei's stump leg.
She hesitates for a moment, throat tightening at the prospect of not acting soon enough - after all, if Sei had died, everyone would have blamed her - but it's not long before she springs into a quick, deft step. No matter how distraught this might make her, Chane never loses control of her movements.
[ Not too long after, Hannibal is running into the church. He's dirty, considering he just took a dive in (probably bloody) dirt, but Chane's message had gotten through. He sees Claire/Felix first with a look of worry and immediately speaks to him first: ]
Mr. Walken, your wife- [ He starts, but there's Sei, so he rushes over to check her over. As soon as he realizes the leg is gone, he's starting to check it over just as he had done for Natalie. He doesn't hesitate in getting his hands dirty with blood, though he's as careful as he can while he examines the wound. Though even so, he speaks to Claire almost immediately: ]
Are you wearing a belt? If so, I need it.
[ Hannibal is admittedly also wearing one, but he'd really like to keep his pants on properly while being a surgeon tbh ]
[ He takes the belt and immediately tightens it around Sei's leg as tightly as it'll go. Hannibal checks the actual area of her leg to see if it's as rough as Natalie's was, but even without that information, he can be fairly certain of his response: ]
Please go to the clinic and gather everything laying out. Assuming no one touched the tools, I left them out to dry after Natalie's surgery. I will need to do the same today, and I would rather not move him.
[ He's calm and focused, which is at least a plus despite the chaotic morning he's already had. ]
Please bring the anesthetic and pain killers as well. I set them next to each other, top shelf on the right.
[ Roughly five minutes later, Claire returns with the needed tools, including some bandages. He seems to move quick for someone who sometimes comes off as slow on the uptake.
Leaning his arm on Hannibal's shoulder, he looks around the room. ]
Will she be okay with you? We still gotta find the killer. Or whoever failed at it, anyway. That's still grounds for a trial, right?
[ He takes stock of everything Claire returned with quickly , but satisfied, he takes a pair of gloves and pulls them on. Similarly, for being a rather mild-mannered person, he's intensely focused now and doesn't seem all too bothered by the prospect of what he's about to do. Surgeons, right? ]
If it is at all similar to Natalie, then perhaps not. From what she told Xion and I, her circumstances seemed... different.
[ Though he never did get the full story, since he was more focused on stopping the bleeding at the time. Which, now that he has what he needs, he draws anesthetic up into a syringe. He doesn't want Sei waking up while he's working. ]
Do you have any idea how long she may have been here?
It's hard to tell. As far as I know, the last time anyone has seen her was back at the mines. [ Like Natalie. ]
Someone must've gone back for her and brought her here. The lack of a blood trail must mean she lost her leg inside this church rather than the mines, but who am I to make sense of this place?
[ He nods in understanding, though it's not quite what he was hoping to hear. ]
I will work under the assumption that I should be quick, in that case.
[ He withdraws the needle and simply waits until he's reasonably certain it's taken effect. He can't be sure, since she's not concious enough to tell him, but that's just a risk he'll have to swallow for now. ]
You may stay, if you are comfortable potentially being my assistant. Otherwise, could I trouble you to find someone willing to help in that role?
Well, I was gonna look for the bad guys, but I don't mind sticking around. I'm sure Chane would want me to. [ Pause. ] Or would she want me to go look for the culprit? Did she say anything else to you? Agh, I just can't decide!
[ He looks down at Sei. Poor, poor Sei, stuck with these freaks. ]

But the confessional booth is still there, lingering. Blood stained. Innocent. ]

Claire, however, is being slightly more sane today and goes to the confessional booth. ]
Hey, don't beat yourself up! We still have a lead here.
[ Claire knocks first, and then opens up the booth without waiting for a response. ]
--I kinda feel bad intruding like this, but it's gotta be done.

But also she looks... pretty bad! First of all, she is missing a leg. Yikes.
Secondly, she is covered in bites and scratches.
Third...ly... she has some pretty severe strangulation marks on her throat.
And fourth! Fourth and finally, she is very, very much not conscious. You might want to check for a pulse. She looks like she's lost a lot of blood. ]

Well, fun time's over. Claire adopts a serious expression when he recognizes who this is. ]
Isn't this your friend from the other day?
[ Before they do anything else, he's going to check her pulse to see if she's still alive. Stranger things have happened! ]
Look.
[ He also gestures to the strangulation marks, only because they're less obvious than all the other HORRIBLE THINGS that happened to this poor girl! ]

Live, damn you!
Live!!! ]

But it also is very light and Sei isn't looking to good. Get help, y/n? ]

She's still alive.
[ Gently, he picks her up so they can place her in a more open space. They'll need it soon. ]
We need someone who can fix her. -- Also, see if anyone has seen her leg.
[ Worst case scenario, if they can't reattach it, it can at least provide more clues??? ]
I'll keep watch over her.
[ GODSPEED, PANICKED MUTE WIFE WHO WILL NEED TO EXPLAIN THIS TO SOMEONE ]

Can you save her, doc?
If you need anything else, I can get you those, too. [ Including more belts. ]

Incidentally, there's some blood on the sheath of the sword at her waist, and if they draw the blade, it's definitely gross and gory. Yikes.]
