The town is quiet, eerily so. All animals, all chatter, all gusts of wind have come to a complete stop this morning. A tumbleweed passes by through the center of town and the rocking chair on the Sheriff's porch sways but remains silent. Everything is muted and as the door of the hotel opens, the only sensation that rings utterly true today is this:
One of your own is gone.
And now, as the rules state, it is your job to discover their fate.
Welcome to the investigation post! If your character decides to search an area, please post the name of the location in your header and wait for the mod replies. Anything to discover or not to will be indicated during the course of the thread.
After the body is discovered, an announcement will be made and characters are free to spend the rest of the afternoons how they like. If there are any questions, please shoot a message either to this journal or at robowest.
And it's going to get worse. There's no way next week won't be worse.
[It's official, Tarvek hates this place]
I don't see why three bodies were even necessary! Why'd anyone want to kill so many at once? Did something go wrong, was a culprit murdered, did something go wrong with the Bandits...what's going on in this place?!
...Well, ain't that just peachy. [If the ridiculous number of corpses wasn't giving him a headache, this'd probably do the trick.] Someone took it then. Used it for... something.
Yeah, that does reek of someone planning this out in advance. Seriously doubt it's a coincidence.
That's what bothers me the most! The camera was stolen, but Xion and I can't just randomly fallen asleep, could we? And if someone took it, then she and I were vulnerable, yet we weren't killed.
Yes. Riku is the only person I imagine Xion would trust enough to come to the room, but I have talked to the guy, I don't think he'd do something that'd inconvenience Xion.
[...wait]
...we didn't fall asleep, did we? We were...Eliot, have you seen anything in this town that could knock someone out? Like a gas or something?
You think you were knocked out? [That's... Yeah, that's definitely a real possibility.] Could be. Haven't seen anything specific, but... Well, drugging people ain't that hard if you know how. Lots of ways to make that yourself.
What's the last thing you remember from before you fell asleep?
Nothing special. We were in the room, Xion was watching the camera, I was on my bed staying awake and trying to look outside, and then nothing.
[So looks like his memories aren't going to be of use]
Do you know any ways to knock people out from a distance? I can think of a couple, but this town wouldn't have the components for that.
By the way, let's let Xion mention the missing camera. It's important information, but it's known Xion was the one in charge of it. It's only right since she's the one to give the bad news, and I'm not saying it as a way to avoid responsibility. It's my problem too.
[That and Xion may not be happy he talked to someone about it. It was a risk Tarvek was willing to take -- funny how saying a word and then pretending it was an accident is such an effective bait -- but he draws the line at a direct confrontation from other people in middle of the trial. Better stay away from the spotlight, after all]
Tranquilizer gun. Which'd require a straight shot at you.
There's other subtle ways too. Drugging your food or drink. Which is tricky in this environment, considering people just come and go into the kitchen, but not entirely impossible. Other methods... those'd require someone to get real close to you.
[He's just running through the various possibilities in his head for now. With everything available here, these are the likelier strategies. He's not sure where someone would get a tranquilizer gun, but it's not impossible...]
...Yeah, alright. Doesn't matter to me who brings it up. I'll let her handle that.

[Way too quickly. This is early and already this much is happening. Seems they're gonna have less time than expected at this rate.]
Don't know. Could be one of the culprits got offed, yeah. Could be we had someone who was really damn eager. Lots of possibilities.
...Can't say I like any of them. It's way too much death no matter how things went down.

[Since the Tailor shop has been so nicely ransacked, Tarvek looks around, furious]
All I know is that whatever happened last night wasn't mere chance. Someone must have planned this or the camera--
[...dang. He said a bit too much. Tarvek stops, looking contrite]

[He really hopes someone else isn't gonna try to take the bullet again this time.]
...Pardon? [Oh no, you can't just stop there, Tarvek. Eliot's looking at him more intensely now.] ...Something you wanna share there?

It's something everyone will hear about during the trial, so may as well say it now.
The camera is missing. Someone stole it from Xion and I's bedroom. There are no signs of forced entry on the door or on the window.
It just...is missing and we haven't found it anywhere.

I don't understand yet what happened.
[How do two people fall asleep like that?]

...Is there anyone who regularly visits your room?
