It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.
... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!
After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts.
This post functions as the general mingle post for the week. Wanted Posters and other small events will be posted in top levels below. If there's any questions or requests, please send a PM or shoot a PP to robowest. |
A THING
... Hooves?
There is the sound of an animal squeal, more likely one of the coyotes roaming around being caught off guard before the pounding gets louder and louder and around the train comes... well, deer.
An excess of deer. A stampede of deer.
It's a mixture of them -- from quiet fawn to large bucks -- and they all seem fairly panicked as they run through the town, trampling anything in their path. The horde seems to be running in the direction of the homestead, passing through the town first as they go. Anything in their path might want to move out of it and if they can't --
Well. There is a loud whine and Diamond Dog seems to have been caught in the stampede and anyone looking too closely will see the poor thing trampled before he can run away. He puts up a good fight but well, it's a few hundred deer versus a dog.
Which also means people might want to get out of the way before they too suffer DD (and a few coyotes, birds, rabbits, etc)'s fate. ]

Laughing. He's genuinely laughing at all of this. Hands braced to his knees as he wheezes with it. This is just too funny, honestly.
What an asshole. ]

[Who's not cool with seeing dogs get trampled to death? Sei. Who's impulsive enough to try and get in there to rescue the dog, even though it's already super dead? Also Sei.
Who's not fast enough to avoid getting trampled too?
Yeah, if you thought you were going to get a different answer...
She isn't fast enough on her feet (or rather, foot) to be able to dodge and weave through the stampede, so it's only natural that she gets knocked to the ground. There's a bit of movement there, a struggle, as she tries to avoid the hooves, but -
When it starts to clear up a little, Sei is not moving. Also, there's a lot of blood.]

hello, one (1) disney princess is here
She happened to see the commotion - honestly, who could miss it? - and kept Pluto close by her side, watching from the hotel. What unfolds happens so fast she doesn't even get to scream out a warning. Just slaps both hands over her mouth in open horror.
When she goes, she only takes one of her crutches. It's faster, even if she ends up stumbling a lot and at one point just straight up fucking falls down. Which hurts enormously, but she doesn't even make a sound. Just drags herself back to her feet, horrified desperation driving her until she can drop by Sei's side. ]
Seizaburo!
[ just, there is blood, there is blood everywhere, how many times now has she gotten covered in the blood of her friends
heedless her hands reach out, seeking some piece of her friend that doesn't seem destroyed. there is none.
she knows. she knows, already. it's why she starts to cry without a sound as she ends up taking seizaburo's hand in hers as gently as she can. ]
How... how could you...

He hears Sei say something, but then it's just... noise. A whirlwind of sounds he can't quite make out. It's only when he hears someone (Xion?) approach the scene and call out Sei's name that he deems it safe, at which point he jumps down from the roof.
Quickly, he walks over to where he thinks Xion is (liquid under his feet—blood?). Ah... and this is how it ends, huh?
He stops at a distance: close enough to hear, far enough that Xion might not notice him if she's focused on Sei right now.]

In a way, this place was safer for her. If she kept her head down, if she didn't do anything to arouse suspicion, she could live out most of her days without ever having to draw her sword. It's been peaceful, except for when it wasn't.
It's left her restless.
She hears Xion call her name, but she can't muster up the strength she needs to turn fully towards her. She can't even really grip her hand, though her fingers do twitch at the touch.]
Miss— [She coughs, and flecks of blood stain her lips. Is this what death feels like? It's so much more painful than she imagined.] Miss Xion...
[I'd welcome death, if it were for Sensei.
She never imagined it would come like this.]
I'm... so sorry...
no subject
She has become jaded enough to not even have hope. Even she can tell Seizaburo is too badly hurt to save this time.
What can she do? There's so much blood. Somehow this is even more horrible than finding Riku's head. That had been like something out of a nightmare, but at least he'd been dead. It wasn't like he could talk to her with his dying breaths. She's going to stay here, right here, and watch Seizaburo die right before her eyes, and she's never going to forget it for as long as she manages to survive. ]
Idiot!
[ The proclamation is a whisper, carried on a heartbroken wet laugh as she leans over, pressing her forehead to her friend's. One last connection. Her tears fall on Seizaburo's face, and she doesn't even try to stop them. ]
What made you think ... you'd survive?
[ Unless Seizaburo hadn't imagined surviving at all. She can picture it, and it makes her laugh again, the sound more of a sob. ]
I told you to be careful. Why didn't you listen?

[She's never been the strongest, or the sturdiest. She has been the fastest, and somehow, even when she's been grievously injured, she'd always managed to come out of it alive.
This time, she's not going to. She can feel the strength slipping out of her bones.
...she's never going to see Okita again. She can make her peace with that, as long as she's sure he's alive and well. What she can't make her peace with is forcing Xion to witness this.]
...forgot... I'm slower now.
[An idiot to the very end.]
The dog... is he-?
no subject
Stupid... how do you forget you're missing a leg?
[ Her thumb strokes Seizaburo's cheek, slow, soothing. She actually... doesn't know about the dog. She frankly didn't check. Xion will glance up long enough to glance around, trying to find--
... and when she does, she lowers her head again. ]
He'll be okay. [ If they win the game, if they fix everything - their pets should be okay too, right? It's not technically a lie. ]
Seizaburo...
[ She'll lean in even closer, enough to whisper something in her ear. Then she'll sit back again and hiccup as her sobs start to hit her harder. ]
Okay?
1/2
...the truth hurts sometimes. She should just accept the truth, whatever it is, but she can't muster up the energy for it.
Her eyes are out of focus, but she does her best to watch Xion's face, to listen to her voice, and her breath catches when she leans in and whispers to her.]
...promise.
[I promise.]
So don't... give...
[Her features contort in a grimace, and her body goes stiff, seizing up. Her heartbeat is slowing. She can feel it slowing.]
...up...
[There are tears rolling down her cheeks, and she realizes that they're not all Xion's. Some of them are her own.]
2/2
She goes limp in Xion's arms a moment later.
Sei is dead.]
no subject
Then all at once she animates with an incredible fury, sitting up straight and snarling in the direction of the Sheriff Station. She heard you, Hal. She saw you. ]
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!
[ this she shrieks at the top of her lungs, just to be sure he'll hear her.
Xion isn't built for hate. She's been angry many times, more than she could probably count. But hate, real hate, has always seemed like something someone else would feel.
Until right now. ]
no subject
God, what a funny day this is. ]
no subject
[ She's grabbing her crutch and struggling to her feet, filled to the brim with murderous intent. She ... clearly is going to try going over there, and even tries to start. ]
If you think murder is so funny, maybe we really should kill you! I'm sure you'd think it was really funny then you--!

Sei isn't the only idiot out of the lot of them. Damian makes a mad, sudden bolt for the stampede and the dog. He pretty much Mufasa runs right into the stampede (oh deer), and disappears in the thundering smoke.
A few moments later, he's spit out of the madness by the force of their herd. He rolls and tumbles in the sandy dirt until he ends up face first in it.
There's a good handful of blood soaking the dirt round his head, but at least he's stirring.]
no subject
Everything sure is happening too much.
Sparing a glance to where Seizaburo is currently laying on the ground, he silently apologizes before kneeling down and checking the State of the Damian. Please take care of their super duper dead samurai, Xion and Shinnosuke, because he apparently has to take care of an idiot over here. Bye.]
no subject
Hey--! Can you hear me?
no subject
Slowly, Damian lifts his head. Apparently the pool of blood in the dirt came from his nose which was promptly busted when he ran into a herd of deer. Who'd have thought?
He grunts; it sounds bubbly and gurgly, and then he spits a wad of blood onto the ground away from them.] Dog--
The dog. [He notices Sei then, Shinnosuke, Xion--] Dammit.
no subject
Yeah.
To Damian, he signs: Idiot.
And to Sara, he cocks his head in direction of the clinic. If he's not dying they should haul his ass out of here. Though he's still worried about Sei, even if Xion and Shinnosuke have that covered. Ugh.]
no subject
Can you walk? We're gonna have to get your nose looked at. [ Please let's not have any more broken limbs today. ]
no subject
Leave me alone. The dog-- [Sorry, he has to hock another wad of blood and mucus onto the ground because it's all running down the back of his throat. Forlornly, he chances a glance back at the path the stampede took. Fuck.
DD is still there, twisted in ways a dog should never be twisted. He squeezes his eyes shut a second while looking away.]
I can walk.
no subject
Too late, he moves to block Damian's view of the dog. Not a whole lot to be done about that, unfortunately, but he's not getting a second look at the corpse if Jason can help it. Either way, he shifts his position, signing out one more message—
If you can walk, up.
Before helping Sara prop him up, if not offering him a hand altogether. Speaking of which: sorry for the "secret" conversation, Sara. He'll, uh, write shit down later once a 10-year-old isn't hacking up blood and mucus.]
no subject
So maybe keep the dogs indoors for awhile...
no subject
By the time he gets up to his feet, he's rolling his shoulders and arms to get them off of him. And, you know... he's promptly going to turn right around and try to go by or through both of them to get to the dog that's still lying out in the middle of the town's road.
He needs!!! to bury!!! the DOG!!!
no subject
Assuming Damian doesn't avoid it or wriggle out of it, Jason's just going to push him Sara's way?? She looks like she knows how to deal with a 10-year-old. Kind of. Maybe. Point is — please help him herd this child to the clinic before he kicks his ass and makes it worse.]
