It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.
... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!
After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts.

I'm not quite sure I believe it myself. [ Or rather, he hopes he doesn't have to believe the people stuck here are capable of it. ] I'd rather not wait around and see, though.

The lock won't budge. [ So, that's a bust. ] We either need to find the key, or...find a way through the walls or floor. [ He nods at the floor. ] How solid does it feel beneath you?
I'll look around and see if I can find any explosives. [ Look, it'd be effective. ] Or the keys, if they're around. Will the sheriff bring you regular meals? I can bring you something to eat if he's not.

So far, his key search hasn't turned anything up, which isn't that surprising. There is the rifle cabinet - maybe he could try shooting the lock off??
Fortunately, he has the common sense not to try that idea, instead taking one of the sheriff's pens. Maybe he can pick the lock with it. ]
