It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.
... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!
After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts.

[noct doesn't really mind the company; the situation is more than overwhelming and learning how to get by without his friends there to guide and support him is just proving to be incredibly overwhelming for so, so many reasons.
fishing helps.
except that there's a fish that's definitely bigger and larger than he expected, and when it pulls on the line, noctis actually almost stumbles forward a bit.]
Whoa! [definitely got a live one here; it's not the first time this has happened, but it's the first time he's going it alone with something sizable.
[it's fine, he's used to people being stiff and formal around him. such is the life when you're the prince of an entire nation and all. only a few people treat him informally when they know who he is—
so he's surprisingly at ease with it, especially because barnham carries himself like someone who would work for the royal family.]
Almost... there...
[he's definitely struggling, and he can feel the line getting to the point where it could snap. he tries to reel it in when the resistance is low, and just when he really does get it almost there?
[... Shame. That's a waste, even Barnham can tell--but he just plants his feet, and when the line snaps and Noct jerks back, he steadies him relatively easily.
He's tough, it's fine.]
... It seemed to have been an opponent too strong for your line.
Just what's in that shed over there. Not terrible, but the lines aren't as sturdy.
[if there's anything better, he hasn't found it yet—though that doesn't mean he won't try.] I could probably manage if I work the tension better, anyway.

He'll help.
He'll help by reaching out and immediately snagging Noct's shoulder, planting his feet.]
I will steady you, if you wish to reel in your catch.

it helps a lot.]
Thanks.
[really.
he starts working to reel the fish in, shifting to try and easy the tension on the line. but it's a struggle. how big is this thing?]
Geez... it's heavy.

[Does Barnham know how to be anything but stiff and formal? Signs point to no.
At least he's strong enough to help hold Noctis in place as he wrestles with the fish.]

Yeah, pretty weak. If I could use mine, probably would've gone better. I keep stronger lines than this, usually.
[disappointed!!!!]

[Seems like it'd be a shame to go without, considering they might be stuck here awhile.]

It is simply a hobby of yours, is it not?
no subject
[it's just one of many things he's kind of a nerd for.]
no subject
I see. I am not particularly familiar with the practice, but even so, I shall wish you better luck in your future battles with fish.
no subject
[also.]
And uh... thanks for keeping my feet on the ground. [it helped a lot, even if the line snapped.]

[He's...just gonna be Barnham.]
I suspected you did not fancy a swim.
no subject
Not really. Don't exactly have my swim trunks for that kinda thing.
[or you know, he just doesn't want to swim in that at all. whatever.]
no subject
Though in this heat, I suppose you would dry soon enough.
no subject
[even if it sounds tempting just to beat the heat a little.]

[IT COULD BE....WITCHES!!!
Okay no, it could be questionable things like bodies.]
no subject
[yeah, he sure did already fall in the other day, for reasons.]
no subject
[REALLY, NOCT...]
no subject
[embarrassing.] Someone else almost fell in.
[well, he fell in. but noct was trying to help???]
no subject
[good job noct]
no subject
I could've lived without you saying it back to me out loud.
no subject
I am only repeating what you have already done.
[Sorry, friend.
He looks somewhat amused, though.]

[come on barnham, be a bro!!!
(he's not really that fussed over it, though.)]
