It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.
... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!
Except there is, perhaps, a few things amiss.

It's not going to bite! It just sort of sits there. Being a camera. They can probably notice after a moment that a red light is on, signaling that it's recording.
Unless Shinnosuke and Xion don't know how cameras work, then they're just sort of stuck there. ]
... doesn't really. But she's handy at messing with electronics she doesn't understand! So, given that nothing explodes when Shinnosuke chucks the rock, Xion decides this is probably fine and approaches the camera properly, sitting down on the porch next to it. ]
[ Well, the very big thing about it is when Shinnosuke picks it up, the little screen on the camera is not actually showing where the lens is pointing to.
It's showing the hotel. The kitchen, specifically, still a bit of a mess from a certain birthday party. Oh gosh, maybe someone should go clean that up? ]
[ Oh, he took it... Xion gets back to her feet so she can look at the camera, too, while Shinnosuke does his own examination. What's on the screen seems to surprise her. The kitchen...? Isn't that... Yuna and Dr. Lector? But-- ]
That's...! But how? This camera... we're not even in the hotel. [ She frowns a little, reaching out to touch the camera, though not with any specific purpose. ] There really must be a network of cameras they're watching us from. But, why is this one just sitting out here?
But that's... Yeah. Well, he supposes it's not completely surprising, but still weird. Not as creepy as it could be, but this is the guy who accepts that his phone is being tapped by various people including his yandere cousin, so he's pretty used to the "constantly spied on" life.]
No idea. I've got a bad feeling about this...
[Like he said, he doesn't interpret its sudden appearance as a good sign. It could just be him being paranoid, because he won't deny that he is, but.
[Shinnosuke gives a slight start, because whoops, he's not too fond of sudden movements from others, but his grip on the camera remains steady, at least.
[ Xion mostly just sounds determined. If she's scared, she's keeping it to herself. Time to press "next" again, then. What will they see this time...? ]
[ For what it's worth, Xion went through those quicker than the rest...
A little sigh escapes her as she thinks it over. ]
What do you think would happen ... if we kept it?
[ She frowns thoughtfully, pressing a loosely curled first to her mouth. ]
It's spying, but with something like this ... no one could sneak out of the hotel without the rest of us realizing it. We could try and stop the murders...
[ Though there's a thread of uncertainty in her voice. The consequences for not killing, after all.... ]
Well, Mr. Sheriff hasn't burst out of nowhere and yelled at us for touching the camera, so we're probably not in trouble if we keep it.
[And then they find themselves in the stocks with Jason tonight—]
But there are a few problems. Even putting aside the rules of this game: this doesn't catch people leaving through their windows, which would likely be their exit on Thursday night anyway.
Another problem is the matter of who. Who gets to keep it? If we run on an honour system where we leave it out in public, someone's inevitably going to steal it.
[Shinnosuke has absolutely no faith in the populace, tbh.]
On the other hand, who should be the one to keep a tool that can be used for spying? [He lets out a light laugh.] Though that crosses me off the list already. No one would trust leaving this in the possession of trash like me.
[ Xion absorbs all of that quietly, watching him with a thoughtful and somber look on her face. Given that she was the one to raise the issue of the unlocked windows, that's a point she can't deny. ]
That's true. But if we assume something like that, there isn't much point to a camera like this, is there? At least, not for us.
[ Xion sighs as she thinks it over, her brow furrowing. ]
I think ... we should bring it back to the hotel and tell the others. We could put it up to a vote and decide who we think is best to keep an eye on it. ... as much as I hate to say it, I think you're right about it getting stolen, so ... it's better if just one person hangs onto it.
[ A beat and she adds, quietly, ]
But I don't think you're trash, Shinnosuke.
Edited (haha sorry had to add those FRIENDSHIP SPARKLES) 2017-01-27 03:43 (UTC)
[And suddenly, Shinnosuke's actually glad that Xion's here, because he has to wonder if people (Sei, in particular...) would think he'd tampered with the camera otherwise. Xion's a cute, young girl, though; people probably trust her.
... Never mind, he wishes Xion weren't here?? He makes a face, because stop friendship-ing right now, Xion?? Not the time for it???
So yeah, he's ignoring that.]
You really are a goody-two-shoes, aren't you?
[Because that's the idea of a nice person. Shinnosuke pauses, trying to decide on what their options are here. He holds up his hands, palms facing upwards, as if mimicking a scale.
He lowers one hand.]
On one hand, telling everyone would mean that we get more input, and we could foster a sense of trust and community, and isn't that lovely? [#sarcasm] Ah, though Jason would be left out of the vote, since he's stuck here. [And he'll be raising his voice for this next part:] Poor Jason. Isn't that too bad for him?
[And now back to normal tones, as he brings his hands to an equal level, before lowering the other one.]
On the other hand, that's still practically inviting someone to steal it if everyone knows about its existence and who has it in their possession. Not to mention... whomever we consider the most trustworthy could actually be the least.
And while I glossed over it, there's also the matter of whether or not it's a good idea to blindly prevent the murders to begin with.
[ FROWNS A LIL but doesn't contest his description of her. For Reasons.
She will instantly glare at him indignantly for being a jerk to Jason, and push on his shoulder, though not hard. Hissing: ]
Shinnosuke! Don't be so mean to him!
[ HUFF PUFF
After that, though, she takes a moment to think. She isn't typically a quiet person, so it's clear she's thinking really hard about this. She doesn't even immediately deny his assertion about preventing the murders, which probably says something for her frame of mind. ]
... if we try to hide it, someone else will find it, and we don't know what they'll do with it. Keeping it a secret will be almost impossible. If we don't tell everyone about it, then... what would we do with it instead?
[ Apparently, she's not going to directly address his comment about preventing the murders. Why on earth would that be? ]
[But torturing Jason with hints of something Serious going on is so much fun!! And so even as Xion pushes him, he just grins.
But okay, moving on.]
Well, it's true that if we keep it a secret and someone finds out, then our trustworthiness takes a blow. Then again, mine's probably pretty low already, so that doesn't hurt me much.
[He shrugs.]
Will you take responsibility if something goes wrong? [That's not really meant seriously, though.] I'll admit that I'm not thrilled about the idea of telling everyone [because he trusts nobody ever] but I'll also admit that I don't actually have a better idea at the moment.
What...? Hey! You're the one that said it. [ harrumph.
Xion's mouth pulls to one side - both as she considers that problem, and as he teases Jason again, winning a brief glare. ]
Well... it is Thursday. Everyone should be back inside for curfew ... well, except for Jason. [ UNHAPPY FROWN ] So maybe we can gather everyone on the first floor after 9?

[ can she just kind of ... pick it up ]

But fine, he'll be walking towards the camera as well (still staying outside of its line of sight), though he refuses to sit down like Xion.]
That means it's recording. [Does Xion even know what that means...] Well, we should see what else it might have on it.
[He pauses, before he reaches down to pick it up so that he can try and turn it off and, hopefully, see what might be in its memory.]

Any functions on the camera they can check out?]

"Back" and "Next".
Those are the only two things really out of line with any other normal video camera. ]

Of course. Time to play voyeur, it seems.

no subject
The same goes for the next one which is the bathhouse and sauna.
Female first, then male.
Then the hallway of the first floor of the hotel, leading to all the rooms and the staircase.
Then back to the kitchen again. Looks like it's the entire ground floor of the hotel. ]
no subject
[ Xion will lower her hand, still frowning a little. ]
That was the whole hotel, wasn't it? Do you think... there are more cameras like this one, that can see other parts of the town?
no subject
Maybe. None of this answers the question of why this camera showed up, so we're still pretty far in the dark here.
And then there's the question of what we're supposed to do with this thing now.
