 CURRENT POPULATION: 8
It's a rather quaint town when you get down to it. At least, that's what the Sheriff would argue. Warm and dry in the mornings and afternoons with a brisk coolness in the evenings. The perfect type of weather to just sit out on your rocking chair and observe the comings and goings.
... Of course, there's not much in the way of comings and goings when there aren't any actual people here to watch. Nevertheless, don't let that get you down! The town is your oyster and those roosters won't stop crowing until everyone's out of bed. Up and at 'em, rise and shine, it's time to make the day yours!
After all, there's nothing wrong with the town today and you might just want to savor it while it lasts.
This post functions as the general mingle post for the week. Wanted Posters and other small events will be posted in top levels below. If there's any questions or requests, please send a PM or shoot a PP to robowest. |

THE SHERIFF
Actually.
He's not doing much this week, just spending most of his time sitting in his rocking chair and looking oddly melancholy. Huh. ]

[Six weeks ago, Barnham probably would've rushed over to the post office, full of righteous indignation, and tried to stop the fire. Now, when he gets there, it's basically too late, and he's too tired to really fight it anyway. He just stares blankly at the burning post office, and then sighs.
And his shoulders slump. He doesn't even have anything to say to that.
Just.
Sighhhhhh.]
b
[He can also be found roaming the town--he seems to be looking for people in particular?
Yeah.
He's trying to get a head count. It's kind of hard to tell who's missing when there are only 8 people spread over an entire town, okay........
As soon as he sees someone, he seems to mentally tick them off a list, nodding to them briefly and grimly.]
Very well...three more.
[Before he shuffles off to find someone else.
Who deda.]
b.
[what are you up to, dad?]

People, until I have found eight, by my count.

[either way, Milla's reaction to the loss of the post office is also pretty mild. she doesn't sigh, but she does watch the flames dance around with a neutral expression, her arms crossed]
I suppose he thought they were being too helpful.

It's the only logical possibility, either way.]
Indeed. And now our avenue to speak with them is gone.
[It's a little heartbreaking, really--less for him (since he still hasn't written any letters back, like a punk) and more for people like Percy, who he assumes was writing to Annabeth.
It's sad.]

not that he won't help if prompted.
but noct seems to be spending his afternoons sitting out on a porch, napping in the sun. sometimes umbra is at his feet, sometimes not. he's definitely more worn down and even scruffier than before (which probably isn't saying much for his 20-year old baby face, but he's probably aged 10 years in these last six weeks anyway).
at least he's alive, probably?]
b, they really, really don't matter.
too much effort.
(and yes, there was a point when he was eating other things, i swear it.)
but whatever, it's fine. anyone is free to join this tired prince as he eats, wherever he may be eating and join in him instant noodle goodness.]

[Strangely subdued and quiet, Percy finds himself spending most of his time now following Annabeth's advice and walking Mrs. O'Leary around town. He can also be found on the porch of the hotel with a stick that he'll throw for her to play fetch. The dog is willing, but Percy seems to be doing it for her entertainment more than his own.
Of course he notices the post office. He feels his heart sinking, but at the same time...he wonders. He can't bring himself to try and stop it, knowing that this town will do as it wishes. He just hopes that his letters got through.
Regardless, you can find him either just staring at the town or Mrs. O'Leary will bring her stick to you to throw.]
b.)
[Alternatively, he can be found sitting on the dock at the lake. Mrs. O'Leary naps in the sun and Percy seems to be trying to skip rocks across the surface. This lake is tainted now. The whole town is tainted, but it's too depressing to stay there. So he remains here. For anyone who appears, they may hear him say:]
You know...now would be a good time for your once-a-year appearance.
[But that's all. He just seems disappointed more than anything.]
wildcard;
[Whole Ass sure is fine, isn't it?]
b
[she overhears Percy's statement, and she can't help it when her curiosity is piqued]
A once-a-year appearance of what, if you don't mind my asking?

[ if you're on the second floor of the hotel, you may notice two familiar figures sitting in front of will and hannibal's old room. the first is winston, who is laying down in front of the door. occasionally he will move his paw forward and scratch at the door before settling back down.
the second familiar sight will be papika, who's clearly trying to coax him over. she even has a can of the fancy dog food?? winston will occasionally go over and lick her, but every time he just settles back in front of the door. sad. ]
b
[ otherwise, you might find her standing in front of the cinema. papika is mostly just staring at the entrance with an odd sort of expression on her face. every now and then she'll reach towards the door handle to go inside, but then she'll pull back and just go back to looking at it instead. ]
c
[ wildcard, which would probably be extreme napping at this point considering the morale of the town ]

[she stares at the object on the ground, head inclined slightly, before she crouches down to pick it up. her expression remains oddly neutral as she toys with it between her fingers. and then, with a shake of her head, she strides off with purpose towards the homestead]

Where the hell did that idiot get to? This isn't the time for joking around.
BOOM
The dust cloud spreads wide and the debris scatters through most of main street, violent bursts of it enough to crash through a few of the buildings and even knock the bonfire over completely. It takes a while for the hotel to finally come down completely and when it does, when the dust cloud is settled -- there's only one figure standing in the wreckage.
The Sheriff stands there, looking mildly annoyed at his singed and nearly burnt to a crisp clothes. He pulls a ruined handkerchief out of his back pocket to wipe the grime off his face before pulling his pipe out, lighting it on a slowly burning piece of wood. He pops it in his mouth, puffing away as he begins to pick his way through the wreckage.
It's a slow walk back to the Sheriff station but he continues to remain unruffled. Instead, up the porch he goes and he closes the door behind him with a slam. A few moments later, the apartment on the second floor lights up with a soft glow.
The true question here is: if a hotel explodes and there's no one around to hear it, does it make a sound? ]
